Wireless weather station for measuring a number of weather parameters over an extended
time at a data collection location. The weather data can be transmitted to a LCD display using
substantially less total power than would be necessary to provide real time continuous
transmission, yet provide the appearance of real time continuous transmission. A
sensorassembly is positioned at the data collection location, powered by a battery that is
rechargeable and a power bank also. A micro processing unit of sensor controls the data
transducers toprovide a data sampling rate and a data transmission interval. The data
sampling rate for aparameter corresponds to the rate of change of the parameter. The
microprocessor unit provides a plurality of data transmission intervals. In this manner, the
data output that is provided to the arduino appears to be real time continuous transmission.
While the invention is particularly well suited for use with a weather station, it can also be
used in any situation where power requirements need to be conserved and data needs to be
shown by a display.

Introduction

A weather station is a facility, either on land or sea, with instruments and equipment for
measuring atmospheric conditions to provide information for weather forecasts and to study
the weather and climate. The measurements taken include temperature, barometric
pressure, humidity, altitude, and precipitation amounts. Wind measurements are taken with as
few other obstructions as possible, while temperature and humidity measurements are kept free
from direct solar radiation, or insulation. The manual observations are taken at least once daily,
while automated measurements are taken at least once an hour. Weather conditions out at sea
are taken by ships and buoys, which measure slightly different meteorological quantities such
as sea surface temperature, wave height, and wave period. Drifting weather buoys outnumber
their moored versions by a significant amount.

A weather station is a device that collects data related to the weather and environment using
many different sensors. Weather stations are also called weather centers, personal weather
stations, professional weather stations, home weather station, weather forecaster and
forecasters.

Weather stations sensors may include a thermometer to take temperature readings,

a barometer to measure the pressure in the atmosphere, as well as other sensors to measure rain,
wind, humidity and more. Weather stations range from simple analog technology to digital
technology. Some even can connect to the computer or internet. So the data collected can be
analyzed using weather station software.

Implemented Results Respect To The Real Scenario

This project body was made of wood board. Total body was like 10*6 inch. The weight was
like 400gm only. The hardware setup was sequentially maintained by following some procedure
step. Those procedures can be apart by two conditions,

1. Off state
2. On state

At off state,

First, at the front side of the body the 20*4 lcd display was fitted by cutting the board as
lcd size. Then a on/off state switch was also given on the front side with a parallel
connection of light which shows the condition of this project like, if this project turns on
then this light will be also on otherwise off.

Then on the upper outside we used DTH-11 and BMP140 sensors to get clear measurement
of process variables like humidity, pressure, temperature etc.

After the sensor setup, we moved on in the internal section of this project. Inrenal
pages section
consists of three things one is arduino mega then power supply and some connectors. The
sensors signals came by the connectors to the arduino mega. Those pin interface
connections are given in the conventional dsign.

Figure: the internal implemented section.

As the arduino mega was codded, the input signals of those sensor gives the arduino mega
commands as its rocomanded. In the power section for arduino, lcd, sensors, a rechargeble
bettery was used which gives the power to all. This power supply has also another purpose
to use. It can be used as a charger for another device via usb.

AT ON STATE,

On the first, by switching the on button the indicator light turns on, then the power supply,
arduino mega, sensors.

Figure: On state upper side.

Arduino mega gives the output signal to the lcd display through the connectors and lcd
display represents the total measurement as a 20*4 display system. At normal temperature,
altitude, humidity, pressure, it give normal result. When the sensors get adequate
measurement of these variables in different situation, it gives the result which is correct
enough.

It gives different results depending on environmental states of various situation. Some different
measurement was taken during test.

2 25.00 1001.2 50.00% 30

Pros & cons of Weather Station

In case of security and protection, weather station goes with a very importance. Considering the
appliances weather station stands for minimum cons rather than total cons.

There are some other factors that you would like to consider while choosing a weather station;

Precautions during extreme weather condition: Faster precaution can be taken from natural
disaster or on extreme weather condition.

Update Frequency: The faster the weather station updates, the more real will be the information
provided. So choose a weather station that takes maximum 30 seconds to update. In fact, some
weather stations can update data in every 2 to 16 seconds.

Accuracy: Go for the weather station that has high accuracy rate, for accurate results.

The range of Data: Range of data must also be wide so that you are able to acquire accurate data
even in extreme conditions.

Limitation of this Project

There are a lot of things that must be updated next time. For some suggestion for future work
on portable weather station,

Battery power system should be with charger and backup

It can be remote controlled by mobile phone.
It can contain some other communication feature like Compass, GPS system.
It should be reliable.
It can use modular system with all sensors.
