Swami,
The rst column of the 6t row in the Gothra table says Abhivadaye. Am I missing something
here? I was expecting to see Bharadwajasa in this cell. Or is there something more I need to
know?

You only have one sutra. Most south indian brahmins, especially iyengars (basing on your
name) are of apasthamba sutra.

In the Sutra list, you have given Aapasthamba and Bodhayana. There is another Suthra named
Sri Vaikanasa Sutra thousands of people follow this sutra. They are families of Archakas of
famous temples like Tirumala, Thiruvallikeni, ThirumalirunCholai, Sri villiputhur,
Gunaseelam and so on. You can add that Sutra also for bene t of posterity.

Vaikanasa is an Agama,, and does not refer to the Sutra as it pertains to the
performance of Abhivadaye.

Viswamithra gotra and my list is completely different

will the respective abhivadya be the same for evrybody who belongs to a particular gotra
irrespective of sect ??? I mean a tamil iyengar from srivatsa gothram and a trlugu or kannada
iyer from srivathsa gothram have same aphivadhya????
Dear Sirs, really very informative site. I am from kabikasika gothram. I am nding abivadhya
from many people. but still I am not getting correct answer from anybody. can you please send
me abivadhya for Kabikasika Gothram please I will be very thank ful for you sir.
Please advise if Kashyapa gothram and Naidruva Kashpyapa are two different gothrams or are
they same
OM
I believe they are of the same gotram. Naidruva Rishi is reportedly the son of Avatsara
maharshi and grandson of Kasyapa. Sometimes the name of a rishi who belonged to a
particular gotram was added and they were also recognized as originators of a gotram.
So it is possible that Naidruva Kashyapa refers to the two rishis, both belonging to the
same Kasyapa gotram but one branch of the family also adding the name of Naidruva
rishi.
I could be wrong but it makes logical sense to me.
Om Sri Dhiraji
My father(who has expired already) said our Gotra is vaasith and pravar is two,but according to
list vaasisth is tryarshey(Vasisth,Kaundinya,Maitravaruni).I am Maharashtriyan Rigvedi
brahmin. Please guide me what is correct.

Dear Sir, you have mentioned Abhivadhayam should not be done for God but during Sandhya
Vandanam, a er the kamokarshat manurakarishat namo namaha we do a sashtanga
namaskaram and do an abhivadhayam. So, which one is correct should one do Abivadhayam
or not a er Sandhi? by the way Sandhi is the only way, one can remember abhivadhayam.

Swami,
Could also elaborate on why Abhivadanam is not done when saluting God, Sanyasins or a
ghosti (group of persons).?
In one of the upanayasams, I have hear that while saluting God it is not required since HE
already is aware of our lineage.
So have doubt if Abhivadaye is required when saluting elders who are aware of the lineage.

I am told by elders that abhivadanam is not performed when saluting elder women alone (not
accompanied by their husbands or windows)in addition to God, Sanyasins and Ghoshti. Can
