Analysis

In this poem, the poet use diction to express the tone of pessimistic of haunted love. The poem
begin with the quote An evil spirit, your beauty , haunts me still and this show that the contrast word
which are beauty and evill are in the same sentence and it shows that this beauty can made him both
sad and happy. Moreover, the word death , ill , tears and haunts can create the sadness tone
that he really sad and also the quote that is With greater torments then it doth take. Indicates that he
is being hurt with his lover. Maybe it can be interpreted that this poet falling in love with someone and
her beauty still in his mind and still thinking all the time. And the word provoked has the hidden
meaning which is anger so he gets mad with his experiences throughout the poem. All the diction or the
word choices that the narrator use can all create the sadness and pessimistic tone that he was very
upset with his struggle in love.
