School Reform that Integrates Public Education and Democratic Principles

Education in America is off the tracks. Its lost its true and original purpose, to create an

educated population that can contribute to the country. Not only is funding scarce but the Commented [WH2]: Remember no direct quotes in

fundamentals that make education relevant are broken. Education has become economics

oriented rather than knowledge oriented. By making education a dollar sign incentive is not

based on interest or a common good but rather a bottom line. If America is going to fix the

system there will need to be a sentiment for change in the voters. This paired with unity among

educators and administrators is the secret formula for a successful education system.

This article is relevant because it incorporates education reform and democratic

principles to suggest improvements to our school systems, which is drastically needed. The

article itself puts a focus on the democratic principles and origin of public education in America,

but I feel it makes the case for change best with its emphasis to persuade voters and generate

public interest. If you think about this is a key feature of democracy because the individual

citizen has power to influence government. The article suggests that the main driving force for

change is parents and local government. Only time will tell if this hypothesis will work change

from the top of our government will certainly hasten the process.

Thoughts - WH Commented [WH6]: -MLA-wise you've done good,

apart from the missing MLA page number header.
-I'm not sure about the Double-entry journal.
-Your first paragraph summary is not opinionated, that
should be a paraphrase of a source and should only be
from the source.
-Your research into the credibility of the source is good.
I think that this source is good for you topic.
