Italia es un pas soberano miembro de la Unin Europea situado en el sur de Europa. Italia
limita al norte con Suiza, Austria y Francia; al este, con el mar Adritico y Eslovenia; al Sur, con
los mares Jnico y Mediterrneo; al oeste, con los mares Tirreno, Liguria, y Mediterrneo.
Asimismo, tambin pertenecen a esta nacin las islas de Sicilia y Cerdea, entre otras baadas
por las aguas del Mediterrneo.
El pas cuenta con una longitud mxima de ms de 1.300 km y una anchura que supera los 600
km. En total, Italia tiene la cifra de 8.600 km de costa, de los cuales algo ms de la mitad
corresponden a la pennsula y a sus territorios insulares.
Su geografa fsica
En el norte, se despliega el amplio valle del Po, el mayor de Italia, que recibe las aguas de
numerosos afluentes. Al norte de esta regin, en la frontera con Francia, Suiza y Austria, se
eleva la cadena de los Alpes.
La otra gran regin geogrfica del pas es la zona peninsular, situada ms al sur y atravesada
