Understanding the past is a key to understanding contemporary


and future society. How do we determine what we preserve and
how the clues from the past are presented for interpretation? This
course will take participants on a guided tour through the Archaeological Site and
interpretive centre at Al Mleiha with explanations from the architect of how the design
creates a developing experience of this site which has been host to many generations.

Learning Objectives
1. Develop an understanding of how preservation theory inuences the design of an
interpretive centre.
2. Understand design techniques that are used in developing an interpretive
experience.
3. Become aware of the advanced design tools that enable a smooth transition from
design to construction in a sensitive site.
4. Learn design techniques for sustainable design integrated into its site.

BEEAH: FROM THOUGHTS TO REALITY

This course will take the audience through the design process for
the Beeah Headquarters. With the ambitious goal of Zero-Waste
to landll this organization has the mission to transform attitude
and behavior by providing sustainable infrastructure. The visionary design for the head-
quarters embodies the mission of the organization and supports their work.

Learning Objectives
1. Learn about the sustainable features of the LEED Platinum Designed Headquarters.
2. Develop an understanding of how the mission of the organization is reected in the
architecture of its headquarters.
3. Develop awareness of various technologies that have been utilized to make the
design and future construction of this building possible.
4. Increase understanding of strategies for interpreting and embodying a clients
programme and organizations mission into an architectural design.

This course will take the audience on a tour of Dubais fully
functional and occupied 3D printed building. This building is the
result of an initiative to develop 3D printing technology for the
construction and medical sectors as a means to improving quality of live. Participants
will visit the building while learning about the design and construction process used for
this unique and innovative project.

Learning Objectives
1. Learn about how the design process was unique for this project due to its innovative
construction method.
2. Develop an understanding of the 3D printing method of construction and its present
and future applications.
3. Develop and awareness of the benets of using 3D printing for construction.
4. Learn about the limitations of 3D printing technology and the expected evolution
path for this method of construction.
