INSTITUTE AND CENTRAL TRAINING COMPLEX
FOR VETERINARY AND ANIMAL SCIENCE
ALUVA, ERNAKULAM

INTRODUCTION
Kerala, which forms only 1.13 percent geographic area of the country, is bestowed with a
beautiful yet fragile ecosystem and is not very suitable for location of heavy industries.
However, the vegetation is plenty and climate is hospitable showing little differences between
summer and winter seasons, thus is very congenial for livestock and poultry farming.
High population density and increased land pressure are the major issues affecting agricultural
sector in the state.
The human resources are generally of high quality with higher concern on health and welfare.
This causes great demand for livestock food products like milk, meat and eggs, the major chunk
is now sourced from the neighboring states.
Kerala is the only state in the country having complete network of Veterinary institutions at the
Grama panchayat level.
In this context, development of infrastructure facilities for animal production, extension and
research activities of College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, would immensely and
exponentially help in improving the economic, livelihood and food security of the public in
general and rural folk of Kerala in particular.

TOPIC- 2
MIXED USE DEVELOPMENT
IMPLIMENTING AN ECCOFRIENDLY LIVINGSAPCE,
THRIKKUR, THRISSUR.
INTRODUCTION
Architecture provides a significant form of shelter for human life.
The first problem is to find out the dominant elements in present life considered
fundamentally and to apply these findings to the wider problems of community planning.
Integrated township is becoming more popular and essential to reduce pressure of existing
city infrastructure like road networks, water supply, sewage etc. arising due to rapid
urbanization.
Thrissur is also known as the Cultural Capital of Kerala because of its cultural, spiritual and
religious leanings throughout history.
The site being 12 Km. form the cultural capital Thrissur, the client wants to merge the
cultural aspects of Kerala as a theme, more ecofriendly living space.
The contour site brings me a very good challenge in solving the living space.

AIM
To access how the potentials of mixed-use as an approach to urban development could be harness to
bring the township into a renewed existence. To build minimizing design materials and to practice eco-
friendly energy efficient spaces thus achieving overall low Carbon footprint.

OBJECTIVE
To analyze the potential shift towards integrated township development with mixed land use,
creating employment opportunities close to residential place.
Local employment opportunities
More interesting urban fabric and enhanced property values.
Mode of using materials around locality to bring a cost effective construction.
Mixeduse addresses two fundamental needs of the community -housing and commercial
services.
In addition, integrating commercial and residential uses supports quality urban design.
The diversity of commercial and residential uses and architectural forms brings to the
streetscape added life and vibrancy.
THRUST AREA
The project will delve into the relationship between the built and the natural environment with an aim
to draw inspiration from the surrounding ecology to bring a feasible low carbon, with a new tree in
market which can bring the surroundings with pure oxygen. Contour site brings in more challenge in
bringing up a feasible living space according to the project proposal.

SCOPE
The study of this thesis is to understand the climate responsive concepts with focus on passive
heating and cooling techniques to be incorporated in design.
Analysis of strategies and implementation options related to land use and environment, energy,
storm water management, water resources, solid waste, eco industrial and economic
development.
The project will be to create a contemporary design which will also communicate the local
architectural cultures and features.
Keeping in focus the balance of hardscapes and softscapes within the design, this will merge in
with the current background.

LIMITATIONS
Detailed structural drawings
Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing specifications.
