Capacity building (or capacity development) is the process by which individual
and organizations obtain, improve, and retain the skills and knowledge needed to do their jobs competently. Success of a new food product is in the hands of the consumer. Promotion is the main element to make the product to reach the consumer. To achieve consumer awareness about the new product, promotion in terms of capacity building programme is one of the essential steps. The programme included the following steps: 1. Identification or selection of region and venue (Academic Institute, community food processing center, village community hall etc.) 2. Choosing of subjects for 1-2 days capacity building programme (procurement, processing, value addition and marketing) for a group of SHGs, farmers and entrepreneurs. 3. Impact of capacity building programme: It will be assessed by finding out knowledge improvement on prerequisites for apricot harvesting and drying processes, financial planning, and marketing of value added products by using a knowledge check list before and at the end of the capacity building programme.
