Math: Xxx will work through math lessons that may be included in, but not limited to, the following
book: Pre-Algebra, published by Prentice Hall, ISBN 0-13-050486-6.
These lessons may include, but are not limited to: square roots and irrational numbers, data analysis
and probability, and operations with polynomials.
Reading: Xxx will read every day, and his reading may include a variety of books on a number of
different topics. These may include, but shall not be limited to, both fiction and nonfiction books,
mythology, poetry and folk/fairy tales from different countries, biographies, and historical fiction. He
will practice reading for: comprehension, understanding cause and effect, identifying the elements of a
story (characters, setting, problem and solution), recognizing the main idea of a story, summarizing a
story, and drawing conclusions.
Writing: Xxx will practice and develop his writing skills using the Writing and Rhetoric curriculum
published by Classical Academic Press. Topics may include but not be limited to: focus on beginning,
middle, and endings of stories, amplification and summation, following an outline, changing point of
view, developing a main idea, developing conflict in a story, and adding dialogue to writing.
Spelling: Xxx will practice using spelling rules to spell words as he completes his writing assignments.
He will also practice and develop his spelling skills using the All About Spelling curriculum published
by All About Learning Press. Topics may include but not be limited to: spelling the sound /shun/,
ways to spell the sound /er/, plural endings, the sound of long E spelled EA, and other ways to spell
words with the long E sound.
Language Arts: Xxx will learn a variety of language skills by working through lessons that may be
included in, but not limited to, the following book: Language Arts Grade 7, published by Harcourt
Learning ISBN 978-1-4114-0415-4.
The topics to be covered may include but not be limited to: parts of speech, sentence structure and parts
of a sentence, vocabulary and usage, and research skills. Xxx will also practice his language arts skills
as he completes his writing assignments.
Social Studies/Geography: Xxx will study American and New York State history by completing
assignments and readings which may be included in but shall not limited to the books:
Other resources may include but shall not be limited to maps, atlases, and history books from the
library. Topics of study may include but shall not be limited to: the history of NY state and the people
who settled here, how the government of NY state was set up, geographical aspects of NY state and
how they affected its history, the early people of the Americas, early exploration of the Americas,
colonial settlement, the Revolutionary War, and Westward Expansion.
Science: Xxx will use the REAL Science Odyssey curriculum published by Pandia Press to complete
experiments and learn about topics in Physics. Topics may include but not be limited to: matter,
motion, friction, work, air and flight, sound and waves, magnetism, electricity, and the quantum world.
Health: Xxx will learn about the body and its functions, dental health, misuse of alcohol, drugs and
tobacco, personal and mental hygiene, basic food groups, good nutrition habits, simple first aid,
highway and bike safety, traffic regulations, fire/arson safety and prevention, personal safety and what
to do in an emergency. This will be accomplished through daily life experiences and materials obtained
from libraries and medical offices as needed.
Music: Xxx will participate in a Homeschool choir provided by our homeschool co-op (East Side
Homeschool Co-op). He may also sing and listen to a variety of music.
Physical Education: Xxx will participate in various group sports (depending on interest), swimming,
and hiking, as well as independent and group play. He may also participate in classes at the East Area
YMCA.
Visual Arts: Xxx will draw, paint, and use a variety of mediums to explore the art process. He may
also participate in classes at the East Area YMCA and classes provided by our homeschool co-op (East
Side Homeschool Co-op).
In addition to the materials and activities listed above, additional instructional tools may include, but
shall not be limited to:
Supplemental instruction may be provided by others (various instructors, coaches, professionals, and
mentors) as necessary.
