Dear Dr. Bruce,

My goal in this course was not only to complete a graduation requirement, but to further enhance

my writing skills as I further pursue my education in hopes of becoming a Medical Examiner. By using

the 6 Student Learning Outcomes skills in this course, I believe I am one step closer to achieving this

goal. I have attached several documents completed throughout the semester within my portfolio that help

show my mastery of these skills. These documents include two copies of my Extended Definition: the

original with instructor comments and the revision, two minor assignments, as well as this cover letter.

These documents were chosen because I believe they showcase multiple SLO skills and helped me

become a better writer.

My extended definition contains RHETORICAL FOCUS and ORGANIZATION by informally

focusing on my chosen subject matter, while informing the Wikipedia audience readers about current and

past information regarding the definition. Subtopics are also used, as well as proper headings to further

define sentencing examples and philosophies. The ETHICAL RESEARCH skill is shown through my

sources that vary in type, and is also shown in your comment as a thoroughly researched definition!.

The COLLABORATION skill is shown in my revision because I take given advice into consideration to

better improve my assignment. I fixed the conceptual issues in the introduction, the number system in my

citations and remove the extra information about criminal justice procedures.

Next, Discussion Board #4 involves PERSUASION and COLLABORATION because I clearly

discuss possible changes the student can make to improve his assignment. I recommend he view Bianca

and Elisas assignment to get more ideas about how to complete his Works Cited. This assignment was

also included in a Shout-Out email. The LANGUAGE AND DESIGN skill is also shown because I
recommend avoiding words like obvious so the student doesnt appear bias in his work. This

assignment also clearly follows the prompt and design, and remains unbiased and professional.

Additionally, I included Activity 3 about plagiarism. By communicating my reasoning behind

why I believe plagiarism occurs more so because of the desire to be perfect, I show my usage of

PERSUASION. I also offer specific reasons by discussing personal experience and other cultural values

found within the country to achieve this. Concerning ORGANIZATION, I focus on Kapps article clearly

and effectively and stick to the topic of plagiarism and why it may occur. I also follow a common 5

paragraph layout to help organize what is being discussed. Lastly, I show my skills in LANGUAGE AND

DESIGN by using efficient wording and avoiding using language that may offend genders or cultures or

show biased views.

Finally, by formally writing this cover letter and attempting to persuade you that I have mastered

these skills, I am showing RHETORICAL FOCUS and PERSUASION. ORGANIZATION is also shown by

following a common 5 paragraph layout to help separate the assignments being discussed and clearly

expressing my thoughts on my work.

I really enjoyed this course and strongly feel I have mastered these six SLO skills. I feel I am

better prepared for my future career and hope you enjoyed reading my work as much as I enjoyed writing

it. It was a pleasure having you as my instructor.
