Date Time Description

I also got to work with Allisson, in a Fourth Grade class across the hall.
Sept. 7th, 30 She doesnt speak English at all. And I dont speak Spanish at all, so
2017 minutes there is a huge language barrier. She would nod when she understood
something. We tried reading together, but I realized she doesnt know the
English alphabet. So I went over her name and a few simple words,
letters and what sound each letter makes. I had her circle her vowels and
understand her consonants. I am going to go over it again next week.

September 30 Today, Allisson and I revisited the alphabet and going over more vowels
12th, 2017 minutes and consenants. I even tried explaining to her what effect more than one
vowel in a word does. I tried to explain the second vowel is pronounced
as a capital. The whole time she looked confused and miserable.

Today, Allisson and I went over consenants and vowels again. I had her
Sept. 14th, 30 go over her name and a few other names and words circling vowels and
2017 minutes pointing out consenants.

Sept. 19th, 30 Today, Allisson and I went over consenants, vowels, sounds of each letter
2017 minutes and three letter words. She enjoyed going over the three letter words, but
did not enjoy that I was trying to teach her to read. It was very hard
communicating what each word meant without pictures so I tried making
sounds. For example, I meowed for the word cat. Allisson was not
amused.
Today, Allisson and I reviewed the same things we have been studying.
Sept. 26th, 30 We wrote her name, went over vowel, consenants and grammar things
2017 minutes that happen in the English language. For example, e comes before c. two
vowels in a row makes the second vowel stronger or sound as a capital
letter.

Sept. 28th, 30 Today I was with Allisson. I thought Id take a step back and go over the
2017 minutes entire alphabet. So we went over the entire alphabet several times hoping
she would memorize it. Then I gave her the alphabet in hopes shed study
it over the week.

Today I worked with Allisson. It is getting harder and harder every

th
Oct. 5 , 30 day to teach her English. So today I tried going over letters A-C and the
2017 minutes different sounds each letter can make. Allisson is losing interest and has
no desire to learn. She is the only student who stays back with me and
cant speak English. I know when other school mates pass her she gets
embarrassed. So in order to keep her attention we learned the My little
Pony character names.

Oct. 10th, 30 Today, I took Allisson outside to the playground. We went around the
2017 minutes jungle gym and I taught her the names of things on the jungle gym like
bridge, and rock wall. We also did a series of activities like skipping
and hopping, and I told her what each one was. I also taught her about the
names of things outdoors like trees and grass in English. Allisson had
her first good day. She was happy and laughed, and we bonded. She
finally had fun learning.

Today, since Allisson and I had such a successful time learning last time, I
Oct. 12th, 30 took her around the school and pointed out things in English. I pointed to
2017 minutes some student art on the wall and taught her the different colors. I pointed
out chairs and tables and visited the library. Her elementary school
library has the word bibliotecha above it, which is library in Spanish. So
I taught her everything there and around school in English. Allisson
enjoyed doing this very much but the librarian was preoccupied and we
were causing a disturbance.
Oct. 24th, 30
2017 minutes Today Allisson met my daughter Alessandra. We went over birthday
party activities and other common things at a birthday party. I even
showed pictures of Alis birthday and went over some themes in her
birthday party. Alessandra and Allisson both love My Little Pony.
Today, Allisson and I went over colors and student art in the hall for Del
Oct. 26th, 30 Mas, an upcoming Latino Holiday. We went over clothing attire and
2017 minutes skulls and offerings to ancestors. I pointed out whatever I saw in the hall.
We walked all around the school. She enjoyed learning today.

Nov. 2nd, 30
2017 minutes
Nov. 7th, 1 hour Today Allisson and I revisited the names of facial features. I painted her
2017 nails. We also went over all our body parts and different hair styles. I also
grabbed people walking by to point out differences in long and short hair,
boy versus girl, and different types of clothing. I also taught her summer
saults and jumping jacks and some dance moves. Allisson enjoyed this
but was a little embarrassed. Anyway, the day was successful.

Today, Allisson wasnt at school and I wanted to get to know about her
th
Nov. 9 , 30 more. It is difficult for me to ask about her life because our ability to
2017 minutes communicate with one another is limited. I have been asking my other
students I teach with why they come to Esperanza Elementary. Most of
them it is from bullying from public school because they are a minority.
Some of my students come to Esperanza Elementary to learn Spanish or
even to keep their Latin culture alive. However, I spoke with Allissons
fourth grade teacher and mentioned she is my only student who doesnt
speak English. Her teacher told me Allisson is a rare circumstance.
Allisson used to live in Mexico where it was not mandatory to attend
school. Because of this she speaks broken Spanish. Her father was
offered a job in the United States and she and her family recently
immigrated to Utah. So she speaks no English. She is much farther
behind than other students.

Nov. 14th, 30 Today, Allisson and I went over student art in the school for
2017 minutes Thanksgiving. I taught her English about turkey, plates, silverwear, and
Thanksgiving foods. Allisson is learning quickly and enjoys her English
time with me. We still cant speak sentences but she knows when I am
teaching her words.
Today, Allisson and I went over superheroes and The Justice League. I
Nov. 16th, 30 brought one of my flyers from my Event Marketing Class. We went over
2017 minutes each superhero. She loves Wonder Woman. We also went over super
powers and which one she would rather have. I can speak sentences and
she knows what I am saying but she doesnt know how to respond. But it
cant be any sentence. I have to elaborate. She is very smart, especially
for not knowing English at all a couple months ago.

Today, I brought my laptop and we learned about Christmas. I showed

Nov. 28th, 30 her a picture of Santa. I proceeded to ask her what she wanted for
2017 minutes Christmas. She said regalos. This means gifts in Spanish. I tried to
have her be more specific but she wasnt. I assume she is just happy for
anything. So, I showed her some stuff she may like on the internet. She
loves My Little Pony. She also loves Barbie and would even love a
Wonder Woman doll. I want to get her a gift for Christmas.

Nov. 30th, 1 hour Today, Allisson and I went over names of different animals. She was
2017 somewhat attentive. She did repeat all of the animal names. We played
goofed around little as we were heading back to her class. I really felt like
we were friends. We have come such a long way.
