9TH /10TH DECEMBER 2017 2ND SUNDAY OF ADVENT

Dear Parishioners,

Today, John the Baptist appears on the scene. He

has a clear message for you: Prepare a way for the Lord,
make his paths straight and all mankind shall see the
salvation of God.
John was a cousin of Jesus and had a special task to
carry out. He was to speak of the Messiah, the Holy One of
God, Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh and get people
ready to welcome him on arrival.
John was the voice crying in the wilderness: Make a straight highway for our God
shout with a loud voice joyful message to Jerusalem He is like a shepherd feeding
his flock. (Isaiah)
So during Advent we too are to prepare a welcome in our minds and hearts once
again for Jesus, our Lord and Saviour. As Jesus was baptised by John in the Jordan river,
we too remember our own baptism and the promises made as part of that celebration of
the sacrament. The Creed was proclaimed on our behalf and the promise to live by that
creed is what we try to do during this Advent.
Message Campaign: As well as your own preparation plans, I am inviting you to
engage in a further exercise. You remember Jesus saying: I was hungry, thirsty and in
prison and you came to my help. There are many people in prison, and several unjustly
because of their beliefs or savage regimes in their country of origin. How nice it would
be to send a message to them to show they are not forgotten. The background to this
project is that I have written a small column for the Universe paper next week,
suggesting that people take up this idea and write to prisoners of conscience etc.
There is also the opportunity to write to Catholic parishes in the Holy Land,
showing our support; prayers and solidarity to them. Please take a bit of time to follow
the instructions the cards and details of prisioners are availeble in the church porch.
We have no idea of the great difference a greeting card can make. Keep in mind the
words of Jesus: I was in prison and you came to my help!
School Forms: I will be signing school forms on Monday 11th at 4:305:00pm and
Tuesday 12th at 4:005:00pm and 6:007:00pm.
Welcome: To Fr Samuel who arrives from Ghana at the end of the week for his
annual stay with us. We hope he enjoys his visit.
Thats all for now, God bless, Fr Joe
