My first dance performance I went to see was Body Logic Dance Company. They have
created dances to give us the more understanding how homeless people are surviving and how
they live their lives on the streets. Homeless is an enormous impact in the community because
we never know they really feel and how they want to communicate with us. It was very
interesting to watch those kinds of dances and how the dancers really give us the behavior of the
homeless people.
The first dance was Becoming Disconnected, and it was representing how they have lost
their human connections because they are so caught up with their every day lives. The
choreographers name is Mandi Taylor and she did an amazing job. Her dancers are Chelacie
The second dance was Change My Horizon and it really presents that the homeless
wanted to change their horizons to better themselves and feel that changing is the best for them.
The choreographers name is Chelacie Yeoman and she has done a great job. Her dancers are
The third dance was Revulsion and it has talked about how there are evil things out in
this world and that the homeless think its not best to talk about how they feel and how they are
living at. They felt evil will come for them if they tell their situations towards people. The
choreographers name is Eiby Lobos and her choreography was perfect. Her dancers are
Chelacie Leoman, Melanie Francom, and Serena Webb. The music was by Chromatics.
The last dance was Things They Carry. It has represented that the things they have carry
with them while homeless has helped them to be alive and survive. It has been their blessing to
feel to carry the many things they have with them every single day. The choreographers names
is Melanie Francom and Serena Webb. The music was by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis.
Mostly the costumes were like dark plaid colors, but there were some light colors in some
of the dances. They wore black leggings, plaid pattern shirts with scarfs. The description of the
staging was mostly white lighting with a bit of red lighting to represent some of the dances they
have done. In some dances, the costumes were like leggings with nice shirts or jeans with a black
shirt on.
The movements were very strong to the point how they present it. Some were sad to
watch because seeing how the homeless really suffer. Through depression towards suicide and
many more things. The space was used around the whole floor and they used their legs and arms
as a symbol of hurt and aggression. They carry out the many aspects on how they feel, how they
want to better their lives for themselves and feel they do have the freedom to speak up. Some
My second dance performance I went to see was the Salt Lake Community College
Dance Company. Watching the SLCC Dance Company was expressing and beautiful. It was like
watching angels in heaven dancing powerful, loving, smooth, and peaceful. I never knew that the
dancers were so in love with dance and they felt they must express their true potential of
themselves in dance. This dance company really knows the true meaning of dance and they
really know the great balance of the movements and the beat of the music they dance to.
The first dance was While You Were Sleeping. It was very interesting about it and I like
how they do the movements. The movements were very slow then fast, it was also amazing to
see the flexibility of the dancers. The choreographers name is Sarah Longoria who is a part of
the SLCC Faculty. Her dancers are Alexandrea Anderson, Heather Cordes, Yarol Donayre,
Daysha Egan, Finnian Helsten, Aleksandra Ivanchenko, Ciara Paige, and Lauren Reyolds. The
music was by Elvis Perkins, it was quite interesting and very smooth.
Second dance was Odissi: A Classical Indian Dance Form. The choreographers name is
Malavika Singh and she has choreographed this dance herself. The movements of the dance were
quite smooth, hard, and flexibility of her arms and legs. It is wonderful to watch a beautiful
woman like her to feel the proudness to dance where she has come from. I love watching people
who love to dance where they came from because it shows they love their culture and the
Third dance was Something Wonderful. This dance was beautiful to watch because
combining the whole group involved in the dance. The choreographers name is Erica Womack
and she is part of the SLCC faculty and director. Her dancers were the whole SLCC Dance
Company. The music was by Michael Kiwanuka, Steve Reich, and Julia Kent.
Norris. She has made this dance into something unique and marvelous. The movements were
excellent and full of involvement of the legs and arms. To doing splits in the air, to the bending
The movements in every dance were similar. With the arms bend towards their back, to
the legs up in the air, and then doing the splits to the ground was amazing to watch. I love how
they love to express their love towards dance. Showing other people what they can do and how
they can dance to the beat of the music. Watching them to be flexible with their arms and legs is
very exciting to watch because of the girls been doing it for a long time in their lives.
The costumes were very colorful and very unique. The girls mostly wore long or short
dresses to present some of the dances they were dancing to. Some wore like high tops with
I felt going to the 2 dance performances made me feel there are different ways to show
ourselves our emotions, our struggles, and our situations through dance. Dance has giving us the
opportunity to show the true feelings of having the freedom to express. It can show others how
we feel, how we communicate, and how we can feel the goodness of life.
Learning about diverse kinds of dances were interesting, unique, amazing, and creative.
We really can see how dances are presented by dancers and how the dances are really a great
opportunity to discover how we see dances in another level of life. Dances were invented
because we as the individuals express our potential life in dance. We discover ourselves and we
encourage ourselves to be positive and not feel the abandonment of life around us.
