Dear Parents/Guardians,

I warmly welcome you and your student to my Biological Science class. My name is Ms. Stehle and I am
so excited to teach your student this school year. I attended California Polytechnic State University San
Luis Obispo where I majored in Biological Science. I received my single subject teaching credential from
California State University Fullerton. I have had a diverse set of biological research experience including
working for the California Collaborative Fisheries Research Program. I worked at the International Bird
Rescue rehabilitating injured seabirds. I also taught Marine Science at Newfound Harbor Marine
Institute on Big Pine Key in Florida. I have worked with students of all ages and am passionate about
education and biology. Because of these experiences I bring a unique perspective to the science
classroom. I am passionate about the environment and strive to create a classroom where students
become more informed about themselves and the world around them to become better stewards of the
environment. Students will complete many labs and investigative projects in this class that will help
develop their critical thinking and scientific skills. Finally, students will work collaboratively often to build
real life skills that will help them in the workforce after high school and throughout the rest of their
lives. Biology is the study of life, so students will learn everything from what genetic material makes up
their body and why, to the environmental dynamics of natural habitats. Some of the topics students will
learn throughout this class include but are not limited to:

Nutrient Cycles
Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration
DNA replication
Natural Selection and Evolution
Ecosystem Interactions
Eukaryotic (Plant & Animal) cells and prokaryotic cells
Human impacts on the environment
Mitosis & Meiosis

I encourage you to be involved in your childs biological learning. I am regularly available through email
and phone. I am also available to meet in person by appointment. I strive to help your student succeed
and I am here to aid them in mastering Biology. This class will challenge them, but it will also prepare
them for future science classes and the rest of their educational career.

We are having a parent teacher night September 15th at 6:00pm. Please come by and see what your
student has been learning and creating in class.

I look forward to working with you and your student this school year.

Sincerely,

Kelsey Stehle
