To Whom It May Concern:

The Education Undergraduate Society arranges and provides Professional Development

workshops for education students at the University of Lethbridge. This letter is written at the
request of Samantha Trautmann who attended the following seminars during the months of
September, October, and November of 2017:

Stephen Dann: Lego Serious Play

Want to learn how to incorporate Lego into your classroom? Stephen Dann, a visiting professor who is
certified instructor in Lego Serious Play, will provide students with a short experience that shows the
power of metaphor through Lego Serious Play.

Richelle Marynowski: Numeracy

Developing numeracy sense is an important aspect of a childs learning. Those who do not have strong
numeracy skills have a hard time in higher level mathematics. So, what to do? This session will provide
you with a working definition of numeracy and some easy (and fun) ways to incorporate numeracy into
your teaching at all levels.

Leonard Sproule: What Every Grade 5-9 Teacher Should Know About Career and Technology
Foundations (CTF)
At this PD Session, participants will learn about exciting new learning opportunities for grades 5 through
9 in Career and Technology Foundations (CTF). Learn how schools are implementing CTF, how
teachers are co-designing learning projects with students, and how teachers are assessing competency-
based outcomes. After this session, you will have the resources and beginners know-how needed to move
towards CTF.

Aaron Stout: Highschool Redesign

A move towards preparing students to be active, engaged and successful participants in an increasingly
knowledge-based and globalized society is a step many Alberta High schools are taking. Join Aaron in
discussing what Highschool Redesign stands for, and how it hopes to revolutionize our teaching
practices.
Greg Ogilvie and Dawn Burleigh: Tips and Treats: Strategies for Improving the Practicum
Experience
Are you interested in avoiding a ghoulish practicum experience? Do you want to elude a visit from the
ghost of practicums gone awry? If so, this workshop is for you! Based on ongoing research about the
influence of supervision dynamics on student teachers experiences and professional growth, this
presentation will explore ways that student teachers can enhance their experience and optimize learning
during the practicum. Workshop participants will be provided with research-based strategies for
communicating with mentors and being proactive in ensuring feedback will foster professional growth. In
keeping with the Halloween theme, tips will be accompanied by tasty treats.
