1- Chavajay, P. "Perceived Social Support Among International Students at a U.s.

University." Psychological Reports. 112.2 (2013): 667-77. Print.

Comment: The article is good enough to be used in academic research study and the

reason for this is that the researcher Chavajay clearly outlines a research problem,

variables that may influence student achievement and he identifies the causal factors

such as family education, family income, parents criminal activity, and family structure.

2- Lee, Jenny. "International Students' Experiences and Attitudes at a Us Host Institution:

Self-Reports and Future Recommendations." Journal of Research in International

Education. 9.1 (2010): 66-84. Print.

Comment: I think this journal article meets the requirements of an academic research

study. A research tittle is clearly provided, a research problem has also been provided

where the Lee and Jenny seek to determine the international students experiences at a

US university. The goal is outline problems and c=recommend solutions data is collected

and research findings are well stated.

Comment: I think this journal article meets the requirements of an academic research

study. A research problem has been clearly outlined and the researcher seeks to determine

the problems that international students undergo while in English speaking universities.

The researcher clearly states that these students are significant economic contributors and

hence ought to be treated well. Research objectives, sample size and all other aspects of

research study are well addressed.

4- Marks, Martha S. "Preparing International Students in the United States for Reentering

the Home Country." Journal of Multicultural Counseling and Development. 15.3 (1987):

120-128. Print.

Comment: I think this journal article meets the requirements of an academic research

study. All aspects of a research project have meet met; a research problem, justification

of the study, hypothesis postulation, literature review and hence a meeting standard of a

research study. It is true that international students face challenges while blending in to

their native country and ways of helping them blend in should be formulated.

Comment: I think this journal article meets the requirements of an academic research

study. The researcher clearly outlines the research aim as to find out whether Social

Support and Demographic Correlates of Acculturative Stress in International Students,

the reseacrher then statistically sample the targeted population to a convenient sample

survey on which data is collected, analyzed and comes up with statistical results that

students who primarily socialized with non-Americans and that students from Asian

countries experienced more acculturative stress compared with other subgroups. Hence

an excellent research study.

6- Manese, Jeanne E, William E. Sedlacek, and Frederick T. L. Leong. "Needs and

Perceptions of Female and Male International Undergraduate Students." Journal of

Multicultural Counseling and Development. 16.1 (1988): 24-29. Print.

Comment: I think this journal article meets the requirement of an excellent academic

research study. The reason is very simple, the researcher has met all the requirements of a

research study, a research problem statement, and justification of the study and target

population, methodology, results and conclusion at the end, hence fit as a research study.

7- Sumer, Seda, Senel Poyrazli, and Kamini Grahame. "Predictors of Depression and

Comment: This journal article meets requirements of a research study. Effective

statistical research study components are well applied. The researchers seek to determine

the factors that impact depression and anxiety among international students. That is an

excellent research study, the target population here are international students and

effective statistical methods have been postulated in the project.

8- Lee, Jihye. "Education and Family in Conflict." Journal of Studies in International

Education. 15.4 (2011): 395-401. Print.

Comment: I must admit that this article really touched me and it is a good research study.

The researcher seeks to determine problems that pop up in families that have sent some

of their relatives to seek education in the international universities. Separation comes in,

financial problems, and suffering and instead crisis result. An excellent research problem

supported with vivid research facts.

9- Flaitz, Jeffra, and Leslie K. Eckstein. Understanding Your International Students: An

Educational, Cultural, and Linguistic Guide. Ann Arbor: University of Michigan Press,

Comment: An excellent research study. The researchers seek to determine the role that

the culture and native language of the students play in the acquisition of knowledge with

an aim of ensuring effective teaching/learning of international students. International

students come from countries and continent sharing diverse culture and linguistic

backgrounds and its only via understanding them well that effective learning can be

ensured.

Foreign Land: International Students' Use Patterns for a U.s. University Counseling

Center." Journal of College Counseling. 11.1 (2008): 6. Print.

Comment: I believe that this journal is good for a research. This is because it has a well-

defined research problem which is the examination of university counseling centers

services by international students during a five-year period. The research variable are also

very well illustrated and they include the clients presenting concerns, the students

demographic characteristics, number of counselling sessions attended by each client and

specific reasons for termination of the guidance session for each specific client.

International Students Attending U.s. Universities." Research in Higher Education:

Journal of the Association for Institutional Research. 33.5 (1992): 607-623. Print.

Comment: I think that this article is an excellent source of research materials. This is due

to the fact that it clearly outlines the research problem which is to examine the various

factors associated with the academic stress experienced by international students

attending graduate schools in the USA. It also provides an estimate number of research

sample population which is indicated as N= 412.

Formation, and the Academic Experiences of International Students at a U.s. College."

Journal of International Students. 5.4 (2015): 459-474. Print.

Comment: Yes, I think this journal is a good source for a research. This is because the

research problem depicts itself clearly. It involves a comparison of both negative and

positive experiences internal students encounter at a single American university and the

acculturation issues they encounter. The research sample population as the data will be

collected from eleven international students via interview as a method of data collection.

Research finding are also indicated in this research journal.

Successes of International Undergraduates at a U.s. University." English for Specific

Purposes. 46 (2017): 15-28. Print.

Comment: I strongly believe that this a good source of research information and data. A

research problem is well identified as it is an investigation on the challenges, needs and

successes of international undergraduates at the US universities. Also, the article provides

various research methods used during the research which include survey, interviews and

open-ended comments. The research finding in this journal are also clearly highlighted.

Comment: yes, I think that is journal can be a good source for academic research material

and reference. First, the journal clearly defines the research problem as study to explore

the experiences of the non-native English speaking students in a graduate course. Second

reason is it adopts an effective statistical research methodology; qualitative analysis

method. Third, a research sample is also identified and involved five graduate students

from Egypt and china. Finally, research requirement for data coding is also tremendously

observed and findings clearly outlined.

Comment: I think that this scholarly journal is not a good source of academic research.

Despite the fact that the research tittle, Preparing international students for a successful

social experience in higher education carries a significant weight, the formulated research

journal lacks facts, evidence and does not met the standards of a good research study.

Comment: I this this journal is an excellent source of academic research. This can be

supported by the fact that the article provides the significance of the research study; the

impact of a specialized first-year course for international students at a large Midwestern

public institution. It also, adopts an effective statistical research methodology; qualitative

analysis which provided quantitative results.

17- Choi, Jung Y. "Reasons for Silence: a Case Study of Two Korean Students at a U.s.

Comment: yes, I think this scholarly journal provides a great source of academic research.

The research tittle carries significant weight; Reasons for Silence: A Case Study of Two

Korean Students at a U.S. Graduate School. The research journal structure also illustrates an

effective data collection method from the targeted population; interview method. The

findings are also clearly identified and explained.

Comment: The journal articles depicts itself as a good source of academic research. This

is because the title significantly identifies the problem statement of the research journal;

examined the problems that four international graduate students of various linguistic and

cultural backgrounds encountered in the process of adapting to the requirements of

discipline-specific written discourses during their first year of studies in the United

States. Effective data collection methods were used; interviews, written samples and

reflective journals. Efficient findings were documented.

Next, educationnext.org/how-family-background-influences-student-achievement/.

Accessed 12 Sept. 2017.

Comment: This article is a good research study material. It incorporates the main significant

aspect of a good research study. The researchers clearly state the research problem: impacts

of family background on the educational performance by an individual, here the researchers

reckon that education is important and having suspected that family background has an

impact on it, they seek to determine how his happens. Significant segments of a research

study have also been included.

Accessed 12 Sept. 2017.

Comment: I think that this academic journal is not a good research study. To begin with, the

research problem statement is not significant as the researcher is seeking to compare two

effective factors of bringing up and ensuring healthy community growth which are all inter-

dependent by turning one insignificant in favor of the other. I mean both parenting and

Comment: I think that this academic journal is an excellent research study. It brings out a

significant research problem; the association between parental involvement and the

performance of their kids at secondary schools. We has seen several heated debates pop

up on whether parenting should impact performance of students. The researcher has a

target population and statistically moves ahead to show out a significant relationship

between parenting and academic performance.

Comment: I think that this academic journal is not a good research study. I mean the aims

of the research are obvious and well known facts that I can even state 20 of them without

reading the article. Hence the article carries less weight and not fit to be termed as a really

good research study.

Comment: I think that this article does not meet the requirements of a good research study. It

has a nice tittle but fails to meet the standards of a research study. A research study should have

methodology, data collection or even references, but a clumsy postulation of the writers ideas.

Comments: This article does not meet the requirements of a good research study. The

Comment: I think that this article does not meet the requirements of a good research study. I

mean the writers have the knowledge of their title but fall short of integrating the aspects of

met by the article by the Harvard Family Research.
