Helping to Prevent Suicide

Suicide is the most leading cause of death in high school teenagers, but it doesnt always

have to lead to suicide. Suicide is most of the time the last resort for people in their opinion.

There are signs that people can look out for if they feel that someone is concentering suicide.

Before it gets to suicide look out to see if the person you suspect is being bullied.

There are different types of bullying that can be seen in different ways. There is verbal

bullying, physical bullying, social bullying, and cyber bullying. These types of bullying can play

a part in the way someone feels about themselves. Verbal bullying has to do with name calling

and teasing others. Physical bullying has to do with hitting or damaging property of the person

that is being bullied. Social bullying is spreading rumors and mocking a person. Cyber bullying

is writing something hurtful online, through text, and through email. When teenagers get bullied

they start to feel that no one likes them and then they start to get depressed.

Depression is a big topic around the world. Now we are seeing more and more teens

becoming depressed every day. Bullying can cause depression. When the bully is calling

someone names or spreading rumors about someone or even making someone feel unwanted that

person might then start to think what the bully is saying is true about themselves. Then the victim

will start to become depressed. Some signs of depression are sadness, anxious, irritability, less

sleep, loss of interest, weight gain or loss, loss of appetite, etc. Depression can also cause teens to

hate themselves and to think that everything that they are doing is wrong. Depression can also

cause teenagers to stop doing their work.

When teenagers stop doing work because of depression it is in a way not their fault. It is

not that they do not want to do their work it is just that they cant. Something in them is

preventing them from doing work. It is like their body is taking over and is stopping them from

doing anything.

When teenagers get to the point where they just want to give up, they might not go

straight to suicide. Teenagers might try to do things to numb the pain they are feeling. They

might do things such as cutting, drinking or doing drugs. Teenagers also do these things, so they

can feel like they are in control of what they are doing and of their own life. By this time

teenagers do whatever they can to not only numb what they are feeling but to also try and feel

something. When the teenagers body starts to take over the teenagers will do anything to have

control over their body again. Then it might get to the point when the teenager cannot deal with

the pain anymore and then might result to suicide.

Suicide feels like the last resort for the teenager. Suicide does not just happen overnight.

Usually it is planed out over time in a specific way. When suicide happens, it is not just because

one day the teenager decides to end their life. It is a series of events that causes them to think that

that is their only choice.

Teens already have to go through so much in high school already. So, when they have to

add bullying onto that it makes their life harder and they end up resulting to suicide. All the

responsibility that teens have in high school doesnt help with things either. So, keep looking for

the signs and prevent a teenager from taking their own life.
