Emission norms and Control Strategies

There are many emissions like CO, HC
etc. but Emission norms over the
years, have came down heavily on 2
major pollutants: Particulate matters
and NOx.

In our last edition we initiated a

discussion on upcoming Euro 6 norms.
To meet these stringent standards,
auto OEMs will be using various
technologies that will certainly pose
various challenges for the oil industry .
Fuels & oils for these vehicles will have
to be compatible with these new
technologies. Come lets get a brief on
this subject and understand the
importance of these devices for the
OEMs.

Fuel and lubricant quality affects the performance of

emissions control systems
Examples of enabling fuels are unleaded petrol that allows three-way
catalysts to be used and
Ultra-low sulfur fuels required so that NOx adsorbers can be used and
Fuels & Lubes which ease the use of catalyst-based Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF).

So, which After-treatment device is best?? Hence After-treatment devices have key role in achieving emission targets.
All technologies have their pros & cons. To achieve Lets have a look at some Diesel After-treatment devices & their Functions

technologies. Also, various OEMs will use various
combinations. Example is given as below:
