9th grade

Lesson-

Mapping system of linear equations

Goal-

Students will be able to graph a set of linear equations and find their point of intersection.

Analyze Learners:

I have a total of 15 students who are between the ages of 5-6. There are 7 boys and 8 girls. There are 2
students who are Asian, 4 African students, 7 who are South American, and 2 who are American, So far,
this year the students learned to count up to 150. They are mostly visual learners, with a couple of
auditory learners.

I have a total of 20 students between the ages of 14 to 15. In this class their is a total of 9 boys and 11
boys. 10 students are Hispanic, 3 students are Asian, 4 students are African American, 2 are White, and 1
Native American. Students have the knowledge of finding interception points and identifying points on the
line using the equations. The majority of students are visual learners, with some kinesthetic learners.

State objectives:

111.39. Algebra I, Adopted 2012 (One Credit).

(3) Linear functions, equations, and inequalities. The student applies the mathematical process standards when
using graphs of linear functions, key features, and related transformations to represent in multiple ways and solve,
with and without technology, equations, inequalities, and systems of equations. The student is expected to:
(A) determine the slope of a line given a table of values, a graph, two points on the line, and an equation
written in various forms, including y = mx + b, Ax + By = C, and y - y1 = m(x - x1);
(B) calculate the rate of change of a linear function represented tabularly, graphically, or algebraically in
context of mathematical and real-world problems;
(C) graph linear functions on the coordinate plane and identify key features, including x-intercept, y-
intercept, zeros, and slope, in mathematical and real-world problems;
(D) graph the solution set of linear inequalities in two variables on the coordinate plane;
(E) determine the effects on the graph of the parent function f(x) = x when f(x) is replaced by af(x), f(x) +
d, f(x - c), f(bx) for specific values of a, b, c, and d;
(F) graph systems of two linear equations in two variables on the coordinate plane and determine the
solutions if they exist;
(G) estimate graphically the solutions to systems of two linear equations with two variables in real-world
problems; and
(H) graph the solution set of systems of two linear inequalities in two variables on the coordinate plane.

Objectives:

-Students will have the ability to identify y intercepts of the system of two linear equations.

-Students will have the ability to find the point of intersection of the two linear equations.

-Students will have the ability to graph all points on a coordinate plane.

Select Media and Materials and Methods:

Smart board

Crayons

Graphing paper
Worksheets

Utilize Media, Materials, and Methods:

At the beginning of the lesson I will utilize the smart board to demonstrate a example problem for
students. Students will then be given a handout to work on and graph on the graphing paper provided
using the crayons. As the instructor I will make my presence around the room assisting students who
have questions. Students will then be chosen to graph some of the answers on the smart board to review
answers.

Require Learner Participation:

Students participation is mandatory and part of daily grade. Students will be chosen by instructor to go
and demonstrate on white board.

Evaluate & Revise:

I will be able to evaluate students work by stamping students work done in class for a daily participation
grade. When students turn in their work at the end of class, I will grade work for content and make note of
who needs additional help. I will also have a discussion at the end of class to see how comfortable
students feel and how they felt about the activity overall.
