Principals Message

It has been a great first few months of the year here at Forest Grove Elementary School! It is hard to
believe that Christmas Break and the end of 2017 is almost upon us. Please be reminded that now that
winter is in to full swing, it is important for students to bring warm clothes to stay warm and avoid winter
illnesses. Please also be reminded that you can access school information on our website at
www.forestgroveelementary.weebly.com. You can also access or school CPAC Facebook Page by joining with
your Facebook account. The following is a list of important upcoming events and information that
parents/guardians should be aware of. I want to take this opportunity to thank parents and community
members for all of your hard work and support of our school throughout the start of the 2017/2018 school
year. I hope everyone has a fantastic upcoming Holiday Season!

Picture Retakes
Students who had retakes on Friday received back their photos yesterday December 4th. If you would like
to order photos, the deadline is this Friday, December 8th. You must have your money and request form
returned to the school this Friday if you would like to order new photos. Thank you!

Christmas Concert
Plans are underway for the upcoming Christmas concert (Wednesday, December 20th, 2017 at 6:00 pm).
Parents volunteers are needed to help with the following: concert set-up, clean-up, ticket sales, food prep,
backdrops and costumes. Please call Corrie Benard at (250) 397-2404. All help is very much appreciated.
Please check student planners daily and use it to communicate with teachers.
On December 20th there will be a dress rehearsal at 12:15 p.m. for those unable to attend the evening
performance. The evening performance starts at 6:00 p.m. We will begin selling raffle tickets at 5:30.
Students should arrive at the school no later than 5:45 pm for the concert and go to their classrooms.
The intermission this year will be different than past years. As we have grown, we will only have a 10
minute intermission with light snacks and refreshments. The purpose of this shorter intermission is to
allow for the added performances created by our larger school population. The 50/50 draw will be at the
end of the concert. Guests can also donate money at the door on the evening of the concert with proceeds
going to the local food bank. We are already collecting food donations for Loaves and Fishes and
donations can also be made at the concert.
The students and staff put a great deal of effort into this event. We ask that all visitors be respectful
during the performances. Please note that students will remain with their class after their part of the
Christmas concert is over. The Strong Start room will be available as a quiet room if needed, for parents
with babies and younger children.

Purdys Chocolate Sales

Thank you to everyone for supporting our Purdys fundraiser. We raised
approximately $450.00 for the kids. The chocolates should be available for pick up
at the school at the end of this week. A big thank you to Kristy Abrams for organizing
this!

Christmas Shopping for Students

We will once again be doing the Christmas store this year. This is a great event
where students get to purchase Christmas items which are donated by the
community. A big thank you to Kristan Deneef for organizing this!

Skating in 100 Mile House
Thank you to all of the parents/guardians who came out and volunteered on our recent
school wide skate in 100 Mile House. Our next school wide skate day will be the morning
of January 18th, followed by the February 15th, 2018.

Childrens Christmas Party

Thank you to the Forest Grove Volunteer Fire Department for
hosting their annual Christmas Party for children aged 0-12 years on Saturday,
December 9th. Doors open at the fire hall at 11:00 am 2:00 pm.
Also, watch for Santa and his helpers on the fire truck at around 6:30 p.m. in Forest
Grove and around 8:30 p.m. in Canim Lake Estates on Christmas Eve!

Hot Lunch
The next hot lunch will be Wednesday, December 6th and Thursday December 14th turkey
dinner! More parent volunteers are needed for this monumental task. Thank you to all
the volunteers who help with our breakfast, snack and hot lunch programs throughout the
year.

Report Cards
Report cards will go home on Friday, December 22nd. Please remember to sign and
return the envelope to the school. Thank you.

Winter Break
Friday, December 22nd will be the last day of school for
2017. School will be back in session starting Monday,
January 8th, 2018. The staff at Forest Grove
Elementary would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.

Lost and Found

The lost and found bin is getting full. Please check for your childrens clothes while at
the concert. Labels are recommended for younger students clothing. All remaining
contents of the lost and found will be dropped off at Cedar Crest Society after the
Christmas Concert.

Bus Students
For students new to our area, school buses run until the temperature reaches -32
Celsius or conditions are considered unsafe. When temperatures drop it is a good idea
to listen to the local radio station or check the School District website at
www.sd27.bc.ca for cancellations. Urgent notices will always appear on the home page
in a large coloured box. The district works hard to ensure that these notices appear on
the website between 6:00 and 7:00 a.m.
