PHYSICAL EDUCATION II/ DRIVERS EDUCATION

COURSE OBJECTIVES
1. Students will improve and demonstrate their cardiovascular,flexibility and strength fitness levels by participating
in the class activities and the Presidential Fitness Tests.
2. Students will learn and demonstrate how to determine an approprate level of fitness, by organizing a personal fitness
program.
3. Students will develop new insights and understanding about the physical body and the importance of fitness in their
daily activities.
4. Students will participate in and develop intermediate to advanced skills in various team activities. They will also
demonstrate knowledge of rules and officiating the various activities.
5. Students will learn and demonstrate driving strategies, rules of the road, driving skills, consumer knowledge, and car
maintenance.
6. Students will learn and demonstrate basic CPR and 1st Aid knowledge, skills and techniques.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
1. Attendance and Punctuality: Absences reduce your ability to learn the material and will usually result in a poorer
grade. Refer to student handbook. The following is in addition to school policy.
-make-up = number of days missed
-school excused absence make up – due by next class for full credit (5 of 10 pts. for physical school activity-come
in and make up specific skills etc. covered for full credit) if it is a PE day.
-sluff = unexcused absence and -5% of grade
-1 tardy = -5 points -- In classroom or locker room by tardy bell and dressed in line 3 minutes after tardy bell.
leaving class early or without permission = -5% of final grade
-no dress = -10 points
-participation each day = possible 10 points (excused absences may be made up during CORE in Aux.Gym)
Students will be dismissed from class if the student has inappropriate behavior (ex. profanity, disrespect for
teacher/classmates - degrading comments. A conference with parents will be necessary before readmitted to class.
2. Active Participation: Each student is required to participate every day. If there is a prolonged illness please contact
the school or teacher. All missed days and work must be made-up. No dresses cannot be made-up unless doctor
excused. On the 3rd no dress the student will have detention with the teacher on Wed. at noon.
3. Conditioning and Fitness Tests: These will be administered throughout the semester to determine your progress
and as part of your grade.
4. Dressing: Clothing that is modest (shorts mid thigh, no cut out shirts below sleeve seam), and allows movement. No
skins. Please bring clean clothes at the beginning of each week. Only gym shoes with no mark soles, they must stay at
school. NO HATS!
5. Written Tests and Quizzes: These will be administered occasionally. Anything late receives 10% grade cut for each
day it is late.
6. Assignments: To be done neatly and on time. There will be a 10% grade cut for each day an assignment is late.
7. Retakes: There will only be retakes on Common Assessments. The student must first remediate during CORE for 3
days to show competency. It must be taken within two weeks of the previous test. They can only receive up to a 70%.
8. Full Driverʼs License Requirements: students need to complete all Driverʼs Ed. work and drive with an instructor
before they can receive a certificate that will allow them full driving privileges at 16 ½. The student needs to meet a
minimum level of competency in the classroom and behind the wheel driving – 80%. This does not stop the student from
receiving their restricted license at 16, but they will not have full driving privileges until 17 years of age.

PEII/DRS. ED. Grading Policy 60% daily assignments participation and tests, 40% Common Assessments.
Total points will be broken into the following percentiles:

92.5% = A 82.5% = B 72.5% = C 62.5% = D


89.5% = A- 79.5% = B- 69.5% = C- 59.5% = D-
86.5% = B+ 76.5% = C+ 66.5% = D- Below 59.5% = F

Locks will be assigned to each student. DO NOT trade or share them. KEEP THEM LOCKED AT ALL TIMES. $5.00 fine
if lost.

Curriculum for P.E. II - Drivers Education
PE - 9 weeks

Units to be covered: (may vary slightly depending on weather) students will be expected to perform
intermediate to advanced skills. Emphasis on rules, keeping book and refereeing.

Each class will begin with warming up - running, exercises and stretching except for classroom days.

We will be doing a cardiovascular exercise for 10 minutes 2-3 times a week.

Get a folder for the class for assignments, handouts and tests.

Course Description

Nine weeks of this class will cover various team activities, their strategies, scoring and officiating. Personal
fitness will also be emphasized. The other nine weeks will cover Driver’s Education, CPR and 1st Aid. The
student will learn about current Wyoming Traffic laws, driving strategies/skills, consumer issues and car
maintenance.

2. Identify and analyze the physical and psychological conditions that affect driver performance.

system.
4. Display responsible driving behaviors when alone and with peers.
5. Demonstrate knowledge of being a wise consumer and responsibility in caring for a vehicle.

and programs.
3. Personal and Social Behavior – Students performing at the proficient level regularly (a) recognize and
use all safety principles, rules, and procedures; (b) demonstrate cooperation and teamwork using the
skills of problem solving, communication, and conflict resolution; (c) respect diversity; and (d)
recognize the benefits of participating in physical activity settings.

Clothing that is modest and allows movement. No skins or tank tops. Shorts mid thigh and t-shirts with no
cutout sleeves below the sleeve seam. Please bring clean clothes at the beginning of each week. When in gym,
only non-marking soled gym shoes can be worn. NO HATS! Locks will be given out and must be returned at
the end of the semester. Keep your lockers locked at all times. Get a binder for all your assignments, handouts,
and tests. You will receive a grade on this. Keep a pencil in your locker.
