Objective
Develop an understanding of
the parts and basic
functionality of a camera.

Materials

The required Text for

this course is the
Complete Digital
Photography
Eighth Edition. By: Ben Long
ISBN-13:987-1-305-25872-3
Access to the usage of a
Digital Camera and tripod will
be used for this block of
instruction and will be
required for completion of
assignments.
Students will need access to a
computer the online portion of
the course instruction.
Hours
This class is a hybrid course
and will include two hours of
instruction, including both in
class and online interactions.
Lighting
In this class, you will cover the fundamentals of exposure theory.
In chapter 10, you will learn about how to take control lighting,
various flash modes, and the basics on how to use an external
flash. The chapter will give you tips and ideas on how to control
the available light with diffusers to broaden and narrow the
lighting exposure to your subject. It also covers the specifics on
shooting an image in both low and bright light settings.
Homework
Extra Credit - 25 points - Continue to keep a photo journal for
each day during this course. Journal should include an image
(taken by you - of course) and narrative about that image
reflecting your experience with photography during this course.
It should provide the details of what you learned and gained this
semester in relation to photography.

1. Complete the online post 5 providing details work with depth

of field. Be sure to identify the key components and provide

examples of what is the best practice.

3. Reading assignment 5 will cover Chapter 10 in the textbook,
Complete Digital Photography Eighth Edition. By: Ben Long.
Complete a short discussion online titled How to Adjust
Lighting. ReadingFive Assignment discussion should be in
paragraph format and must be 50 words or more written with
complete sentence structure. Student must respond to at least one
other students post with a response relevant to course reading
assignment.
4. Create a 5-10 page
Photography Presentation 3
on images that reflect the
proper use of lighting
exposures. Images must
include both bright and low
lighting settings. Explain the
way in which you adjusted
your settings and
environment for the image
to reach the best possible
light exposure and why it is
important to make those
adjustments. You may use
Powerpoint, Keynote, or
Prezi applications.
5.You may use your book or online sources as a references. Be
sure to cite your references at the end of your presentation. Have
fun!
6. Successfully complete Quiz 5 on content covered in Chapter
10 . Test will cover controlling available light, broad and narrow
light, flash photography, flash modes, white balance, flash
settings in low light and bright light, shooting with an external
flash, and adjusting to prevent red eye.
