My MST read aloud to the students every Monday. Since the students like the horror
and fiction stories; she reads "Nightmare Hour" novels to them. This story includes
different scary stories that are suitable for children. Usually, the teacher asks the
students to sit on the carpet group by group. The teacher sits on a big sofa toward all
the students. The teacher read slowly but fluently, and the students listen silently. I
noticed that the stories include complex vocabulary and high concepts. However, my
MST told me that it's ok to read in higher level while reading aloud. This is to model
the new vocabulary to the students. From time to time, the teacher asks
comprehensible questions, to make sure the students are following up with her. The
students sometimes ask the teacher to clarify a new word, or to reread some part if
they didn't understand it. I think the students enjoy read aloud, because my MST read
with tones, emotions, and reactions.
