SEV5. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the effects of human population growth on global ecosystems.
a. Construct explanations about the relationship between the quality of life and human impact on the environment in terms of population
growth, education, and gross national product.
SEV4. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to analyze human impact on natural resources.
b. Design, evaluate, and refine solutions to reduce human impact on the environment including, but not limited to, smog, ozone depletion,
urbanization, and ocean acidification.
Objectives:
1. Students will research human impact on the environment including but not limited to smog, ozone
depletion, urbanization, and ocean acidification.
2. Students will use the knowledge gained through research to design, evaluate, and refine solutions to reduce
the impact of humans on the environment.
3. Students will explore the role that population growth, education, and gross national product have in the
relationship between quality of life and human impact on the environment.
Goal:
Students will research the topics: Population Growth, Education (Environmental Education), and Gross National
Product, smog, ozone depletion, urbanization, and ocean acidification.
Students will create a google document to collaborate with their group members their findings from their research.
Essential Questions:
What is the relationship between Population Growth, Education, and Gross National Product and the quality of life
and human impact on the environment?
How does human impact on the environment (due to Population Growth, Education, and Gross National Product)
lead to smog, ozone depletion, urbanization, and ocean acidification?
Procedures:
Working in cooperative learning groups, students will gather evidence to support that the relationship
between Population Growth, Education, and Gross National Product on the environment.
The students will use a minimum of three sources to find evidence to support their claim.
The students will insert graphs, charts and diagrams to support their claim.
Product:
Design, evaluate, and refine solutions to reduce human impact on the environment including, but not limited to,
smog, ozone depletion, urbanization, and ocean acidification. Students will show the connections between
Population Growth, Environmental Education, ad Gross National Product and human impact on the environment.
Assessment:
The groups will present their findings via to the rest of the class. The peer review sheet will be used to provide
feedback. The students will consider the feedback in writing a final draft of their Investigation Report that will be
access for a grade.
