New batch of students get rousing welcome
The new students of Fall session 2015-16, got a rousing welcome from the faculty, administration and senior students at
the orientation ceremony held here today. Almost 500 students attended the ceremony.
NEWS
In his welcome speech at the orientation ceremony, The then Vice Chancellor Engr. Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani welcomed
the new entrants and urged them to make good use of their time to enrich their university experience, build up social net-
works, interact with people from different cultures, and broaden their horizons. By doing so, they shall equip themselves
to meet the present and future challenges and the intense competition.
The vice chancellor urged the students to follow semester schedules carefully. From the very first day, you have to follow
quizzes, assignments as there is no compromise on schedules and no provision of repeating the midterm and final terms.
Semester system is like a race and everyone has to keep his or her pace in a fixed time period. UET is the first public sector
university that started semester system which is running successfully.
Regarding maintaining discipline, he urged the students not to take part in politics; it is easy to get influenced by the envi-
ronment around us, he said. But our model is different from others and we have no slack in our system. If any student is
found violating the university conduct and discipline rules, clearly mentioned in the University Prospectus, university will
immediately take disciplinary action which may lead to punitive action. So please go through the prospectus and live by
the book.
Prof. Dr. Innayatullah Khan Babar, Registrar, UET Peshawar, and Dr. Laiq Hasan, Director Admissions, also welcomed the
new students and made orientation presentations about the university and its extra-curricular activities. Mr. Nek Muham-
mad Khan, Treasurer, UET Peshawar, chairmen of the departments and other senior faculty members were also present on
the occasion.
Understanding (MoU) according to which UET Peshawar will collaborate with British Council in its project Citizen
Education and Community Engagement Programme Active Citizens. MoU was signed by Country Director British
Council Pakistan Peter Upton and Vice Chancellor UET Peshawar Engr. Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani.
The basic aim of this collaboration is to implement the British Council's project at UET Peshawar as non-weighted
three credit hours certificate course for undergraduate students and to develop capacity of the faculty members as
facilitators by organizing on-campus training.
Earlier in August this year around 30 faculty members of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET),
Peshawar, had completed five-day training on the project.
Meanwhile, the Department of Computer Systems Engineering UET Peshawar with team of four trained facilitators
successfully completed the first phase of the program (The Learning Journey) with the 5th Semester students of
their B.Sc. Engineering program. Three modules namely, Identity and Culture, Debate & Dialogue, Society & Citizen-
ship and SAPs were vigorously conducted in a twelve weeks stretch. This helped students to think through issues
related to their own identity, and to explore ways to relate to other people and cultures being part of a wider soci-
ety. Issues related to the nature of society and citizenship were also considered and discussed.
The second phase will begin with the students teaming up and planning projects that will benefit their communi-
ties. One promising aspect that signifies the Social Action Projects of UET students is their engineering background.
They aim to target the most demanding problems in their surroundings by finding their technological solutions.
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the British Council launched the program for students of all degree-
awarding institutions.
