1. To become an ASNT Level III certificate holder one has to appear for and
PASS the BASIC paper (Compulsory) and minimum one NDT method (
such as VT, RT, UT, etc. )
2. The examination is held twice a year in India (around April / Nov)
3. ELIGIBILITY : -
3.1 For Degree Engineers : minimum 1 year experience beyond NDT Level
II experience requirements.
3.2 For Diploma Engineers / Science Graduates: minimum 2 years
experience beyond NDT Level II experience requirements.
3.3 For all others: minimum 4 years experience beyond NDT Level II
experience requirements.
5. BASIC PAPER (Compulsory) This paper has 135 Questions and duration
of 4 hours. The paper can be broadly divided into 3 areas:

7. COST :
a) The cost per paper in India is about RS 13,000 / - each
b) In India there is a cover charge by ISNT of about RS 11,000 / - in
addition to the paper charges.
(i. e. if a candidate is appearing for Basic & RT he would have to pay RS
37,000 / - (13,000 + 13,000 + 11,000).
8. PREPARATION :
a) Study well all Books recommended by ASNT. Give attention to
Technical Terminology, Fundamentals as well as new developments in
each NDT method.
b) As mentioned earlier, NO CLASS IS REQUIRED. However, if you wish
to attend a class, then attend a good, reputed class, at least 4 / 5 months
before examination. This will allow you to find out what are your weak
areas and give you time to improve on them.
c) If possible attend classes and get certified to Level II in as many NDT
methods as possible.
d) Improve your English comprehension and Logic Skills.
e) Read and understand various Codes and standards such as ASME, API,
AWS, etc.
