speciallybuiltinclinecradles.Shockloads
shouldbeavoidedastheymaydamage
theraceways.
TRANSPORT,HANDLING&STORAGE
Standardcommercialsolvents(withoutchlorine)
canbeusedtodegreasetheslewingringsif
required.Usesparinglyanddonotletthiswork
underthesealsintotheracewayarea.

Ifstackedonpalletsthencaremustbe
takennottodislodgesealsorgrease
fittingsduringmovement.Woodenor
runnerspacerswouldbeofbenefit
betweenbearings.Gearteethmustbe
protectedfromimpactdamage.

Assupplied,slewingringsaregenerally
packedforstorageinadry,coveredstore
andforaperiodnotexceeding6months.

Lightsurfacecorrosionmayoccurin
humidconditionsbutthiscanusuallybe
removedfromexternalsurfacesitsis
moreimportantthattheracewaysare
wellgreasedandrustfree.

Inextremecasesoflongtermstoragethe
bearingsmayneedprofessional
dismantlingandcleaning/inspection/
reassemblybeforeuse.

surfaceswhicharerigidenoughtoeliminate
torsionalbucklingunderloadthatwouldaffectthe
smoothoperationofthering.
Flatnessdefectsunderloadmustnotexceedthe
valuesindicatedbelowtoavoidtightspotsor
seizure;bothofwhichwillreducethelifeofthe
ring.

hardeningjunctions.Whenfitting,thefillingplugs
mustbepositionedatthepointofminimumstrain
(usuallyatrightanglestothemainloadaxis).
Insomecasestheboltpatternwillbyasymmetric
toforcethisorientation.
DOWELPINSORSPIGOTS
Intheeventofhighradialloads,orifaslewringis
usedwithahorizontalaxisofrotationthe
circularityoftheslewingringmaybeaffected.If
circularitycannotbemaintainedbyuseofa
structuraladhesive(e.g.LOCTITE586orsimilar),
themachineddiametersonthebearingringsmust
beused.Ifthisisimpossiblethenasystemof
dowelpinsshouldbeconsidered.
Usingdowelsorlocationdiameters
FASTENINGBOLTS
AlthoughsomemanufacturersspecifyGrade8.8
bolts,QCBslewingringsareusuallydesignedto
beusedwithGrade10.9hexagonheadorcap
screwbolts.Checkyouhavethecorrectgradeof
boltavailable.
ForbearingsinCCsteel(50Mn)theuseofflat
hardenedwashersisrecommendedtoreduce
surfacepressuresundertheboltheadandnut.If
capscrewsareusedthespecificpressureunder
theboltheadshouldnotexceedthelimitsofthe
material.
Theuseofanyelastic(springwashersorBellville
washers)orserratedwashersisprohibitedandwill
negatethewarranty.
Untreatedboltsshouldbelightlyoiledand
tightenedprogressivelyusingeitheracalibrated
torquewrenchorahydraulicsystem,moving
aroundtheperipheryoftheslewingringin120
degreesteps.Therecommendedbolttorque
figuresaretabulatedoverleaf.
Largediameterboltsshouldbetightened
hydraulically.
Ensurethattheslewringrotationistestedduring
thetighteningprocess(ifpossible)asanytight
pointswillbecomeevidentandprompt
immediateinvestigation.Thebolttorquefigures
shouldbecheckedagainbeforethemachine
entersserviceasadegreeofsettlingmayoccur,
thenafter100hoursofoperation,andthereafter
atleastonanannualbasis.

marked,usuallyby3paintedteeth.

gearoranAmericanstuborfulldepthgear. Ensureeachpinionisproperlyalignedtothegear
withgoodcontactmaintainedoverthefullface
width.

Asmanyslewingringsexhibitanaddendum
correctionitisimperativetogetasuitably
correctedpiniontoensureefficientmeshing. Aminimumclearanceofbetween0.030.05x
moduleisrecommendedundernormal
circumstances.

aslewingring.

greased.

Itisimportantthattheyareproperlygreased
duringinstallationandserviceastheyare
unsealed.Goodqualitylithiumorlithiumcalcium
EP2greasewillbeadequateinmostapplications.

Trailerringsflangesshouldbeatleast50%
supportedbyastiffframe,withtheloadingplug
locatedawayfromthedirectionofanyradialload.
