Assignment #3

How to Incorporate a Visual Into a Text Document

Step 1: Click the Insert Tab on the Top Ribbon

The Insert Tab can be found at the top of the Microsoft Word document in the top left corner
near the Home Tab.
Step 2: Click the Pictures Button
The Pictures button is located at the left end of the Illustrations section in the Insert Tab.

Step 3: Locate Your Picture

Depending on how you obtained the picture it can be retrieved from several locations. If you
downloaded the image from the Internet it can be found in your Downloads folder, if stored on
your device manually it can be found in your Pictures folder.
Step 4: Click Insert
Once you have selected your image by left clicking it once, you can now click the Insert button
or double left click the image to apply it into your Word document.

Step 5: Adjust Image as Needed

- You can adjust the images height and width by moving any of the corner/middle circles
as shown in the circled in red.
- You can rotate the image with the symbol circled in blue.
- You can adjust the images layout (how the image interacts with text in the document)
with the symbol circled in purple.
Step 6: Click Layout Options
Once you have the image selected, click the icon on the top right side of the image called
Layout Options. Inside the pop-up menu you will find different types of layout options for
your image, which are
- Square
- Tight
- Through
- Top Bottom
- Behind Text
- In Front of Text
- In Line with Text
Step 7: Adjust to Text
Depending on the text you have, and what you want to do with your image, different layout
options are needed.

- Square The Square option allows images to be placed inside text paragraphs, while
maintaining a square/rectangle of white space around the image.

- Tight/Through The Tight and Through options work similar to the Square
option, but instead of maintaining a white space around the image, it allows the shape of
the image to be filled by the text.
- Top and Bottom The Top and Bottom option does not allow images and text to
mix, keeping them on separate lines.

- Behind Text the Behind Text option puts the image behind any text in the
document.

- In Front of Text The In Front of Text option puts the image in front of any text
on the document.
- In Line with Text the In Line with Text option aligns the image with paragraph
spacing, keeping it in line with any other text on the document.
