Classroom Procedures

Rules and Consequences: Keep in mind before you enter the classroom.

1) Everyones opinion is relevant to the conversation.

a) If a student feels the contrary, and makes this known to the class, a negative will be given

to that student. Feelings can be made aware, but do not disparage others in the process.

i) If problem is not resolved in this way then one on one interaction between the teacher

and student will take place to try towards resolving the dilemma.

2) Treat others as you want to be treated.

a) It is simple. If you do not like something then do not do it to others. In addition, if you

like something others may not like that same thing. If you feel the need to make other

uncomfortable with your actions then a negative will be given.

i) If the problem continues then the student will be sent to the office for further

disciplinary action. Students ejection from the classroom is not normally done, but

creating a negative and uncomfortable environment for others cannot be tolerated.

3) Participate

a) Talk, or contribute! Add to the conversation that is happening in the classroom. This will

not only help you bring about a more inclusive classroom experience, but may even lead

to added information for other students.

i) Not participating in class may lead to lose of participation points that do add up over

time. In addition, refusal to participate when asked by the teacher could lead to a

negative. Please know that when asked to participate the teacher only means to help

others in getting a different perspective that the teacher may not be providing.

4) Obey all school rules in place.


a) School rules outlined in the student handbook must be followed at all times. These rules

will be strictly enforced in the classroom setting.

i) Any failure to meet the school issued rules will result in a negative. If situation is not

resolved with a first action then appropriate action will be taken in accordance with

the school rules outlined in the student handbook.

Common Procedures

1) Entering the classroom- Students will take breakfast item, if desired, and will place their

breakfast card in the designated pouch.

a) Students will then sit in their assigned seat in order for the teacher to take an accurate

attendance.

b) Journals and laptops will also be procured during the first minutes of class.

i) If laptops are not required that specific day, the teacher will keep the laptop cart

locked.

c) If a student is tarty to class, they will be expected to sit in their assigned seat without

interruption. In addition, the tarty student will be expected to meet with teacher to get

work or information missed.

2) Materials- Students are expected to have a writing utensil, pen or pencil, and paper when

entering the classroom.

3) Restroom and water procedures- Students that ask to use the restroom, or get water, will

be required to sign out at the designated sign-out sheet. Once signed out the pass can take off

the wall and the student may then proceed to the classroom. The student must act in

accordance with any classroom rules, and school rules when going anywhere else in the

school.
Special Instruction

1) Group work- When working in groups students are expected to show the same amount of

respect to each student that they would show in any other situation. Making other students

work in a negative environment will not be tolerated.

a) The teacher will assign groups to ensure fair and balanced distribution of students

learning levels.

b) All students will be required to participate in group activities. If one group member is not

pulling their weight and it worries the group, the teacher will get involved to sort out the

situation. Changing of workload, negatives, and switching of group members will all be

considered to fix the situation.

Miscellaneous Classroom Procedures

1) School related alerts.

a) Fire drills- Students will follow the directions of the teacher when the fire alarm is

sounded. Whether a drill or not students are expected to treat the fire alarm as real

every single time. Students represent the classroom when in line in the designated fire

drill area, and any disrespect, or rule breaking will be dealt with.

b) Lock down- When the school is in a lock down procedure students are expected to follow

the instruction of the teacher. Such instruction would include moving to the back of the

classroom, and being quiet for the remainder of the lockdown.

2) Special accommodations

a) If a student has any special equipment that needs accommodation the teacher will take

special car to maneuver seating arrangements to accommodate.


b) If a student has trouble seeing the board it can be requested to be moved to the front of

the classroom. However, if this results in disruptive behavior the student will be moved

back one seat until the situation is resolved.

c) Special request in general will be taken under consideration by the teacher. the teacher

will also follow any 504, and IEP set that is required.

d) Split teaching- If a teacher is out, and no sub becomes available, students will be split

between classrooms. These students will be expected to do the work of that specific

subject of the class they are missing. Any disruption to the regular classroom will not be

tolerated, and will result in a negative, removal from the classroom to the office, or

removal from the classroom to another teacher.
