Olympics
Skills/concepts that will be
taught:
-Purpose: How to be empathetic and brief history about Olympics
-Sensitive terms
-Be called tailgating Olympics
-We are going to make a profile card for each person and on the card it will include a
profile of the person they will act as - profiles will range from physical disabilities,
cognitive disabilities and disenfranchised individuals - each team as a whole will have
the same cards, but each team member will have a different card
Logistics: (Securing location, props & materials needed, invitations?)
Corn hole
Kan jam
Giant jenga
Target golf
Ladder ball
Spike ball
6 people at a time - if it is an odd number we will pair one of our members for absences
and odd number
Rotations:
12 groups -- team gets 1 extra bonus point for every member that wears their
color
Team 2- Europe
Group of 3- Eric F., Ben S., Austin O. --France (Red, white, and blue)
Group of 3- Kevin G., David R., Jessie B.--Italy (Red, white, and green)
Group of 3- Sam F., Shawn P., Yunhan Jiao -- Spain (red and yellow)
Team 3 Asia
Group of 3- Gunter C., Brett K., Brandon Grebs.-- China (red and yellow)
Group of 3- Michael E., Jackson D., Kara R.-- Japan (red and white)
Group of 3- Steph D. , Tyler M., Devin W.-- India (white, orange, and green)
Team 4- Africa
Group of 3- Jordan B. , chelsea D., Oakes S(remove him).-- Egypt (red white and
black)
Group of 2- Quinn M., James H. -- Chad (blue, yellow, red)
Group of 2- Zach M. and forrest and place here -- Zimbabwe (green, yellow, red and
black)
First rotations-
Corn Hole: USA vs. France
Kam Jam: Canada vs. Italy
Giant Jenga: Mexico vs. Spain
Ladder ball: China vs. Egypt
Target golf: Japan vs. Chad
Spike ball: India vs. Zimbabwe
* For further rotations: groups will rotate clockwise vs. counterclockwise
Time- Each group will have approximately 4 minutes at each game and 1 minute for
transitions
Points- - play games until they run out of time
Corn Hole- however many points you score during the game and the winner
receives an added 5 points- board is one point and hole is 3 points
Target Golf- biggest hole receives 1-point, medium hole receives 2 points, and
smallest hole receives 3
Giant Jenga- Each team keeps track of their removed blocks. Each block
removed is 1 point. The team who removes the most blocks receives 5 added
points. If the tower falls, the team who is responsible receives 0 points and the
opposing team is awarded 10 points plus their removed blocks.
Kan Jam- 1 point for throwing it and having it redirected to hit the side of the can.
2 points if it doesnt need to be redirected and it hits the side. 3 points if it gets
redirected into the top of the can. Instant game over if you throw it into the slot in
the can
Ladder Ball- Top bar receives 3 points, middle bar receives 2 points, and lower
bar receives 1
Spike Ball-A player starts a point by serving the ball down on the net so it
ricochets up at his opponents. They have up to three hits between them (just like
Volleyball) to control the ball and bounce it back off the net. When they miss, you
score- 1 point for
Invitations- evite online- make 2 weeks prior and get emails from class list on canvas
Set up- everyone
Attire- White shirt and black pants for leaders
Profiles-
1. An adult who is blind-5
2. A teenager who is hard of hearing-4
3. An adult with an amputated leg-4
4. An elderly person born without their right arm-4
5. An adult who does not speak english-4
6. A young adult with attention deficit disorder-4
7. An adult with short term memory (amnesia)-4
8. An elderly person with chronic fatigue syndrome-4
ORDER OF EVENTS/ACTIVITIES
Introduction: This is where you will use appropriate leadership style and energy to
set the tone for the activity. In this section you should consider: Intro yourself and
other leaders; Intro the activity; Get participants engaged and motivated for the event.
Middle: This is the main content of the event. Here you will want to provide: Detailed
instructions for the event; Your expectations for the participants (outcomes, ground
rules, etc).
Wrap-up: This is the phase where you bring the event to an end, facilitate any
discussion or debrief if necessary, allow time for clean-up, etc.
