What We Did, Whats Coming Up:
Language Arts:
This week in our literacy block, we learned the letters C and O. We read the
book Red is a Dragon by Roseanne Thong and after we made a list about
objects and their color. We are working on a writing piece about our favorite
fruit and really thinking about the details in it especially the color! Our shared
poem this week was about a Kookaburra bird we also sang the song about
the Kookaburra too! In word study groups, we have been working on beginning
sounds and the word family groups at and an. We have been very interested
in learning about non-fiction books, so we have been doing a lot of reading
about our favorite animals. Word Wall Words: I, like, want, my, and is.
Math:
In math workshop this week, we created a shape mural. We took two shapes and used them to
make something that would find in the sky, land, or water. We also had geoboard challenges where
we tried to recreate a picture on our own boards. At the end of the week, we reviewed our games
for Math Game Night: Roll and Record, Compare, Build It, and Pattern Block Puzzles. We hope to see
you at Math Night!
Social Studies/Science:
In our content block, we compared summer and fall. We talked about what animals do in the fall
(prepare for winter by eating lots of food, finding shelter), what people do (wear longer sleeves,
pants, jackets, shoes/boots), what the weather does (gets colder, windy, rain), and what plants do
(leaves change color and begin to fall off, dormant). We took a look at pictures of schools from the
past and compared them to today. Next week we will talk about houses and transportation in the
past to compare to today and begin to talk about what happens in winter.
