Lesson plan was sent in advance and Maryam was well prepared for the lesson.
She had a PowerPoint and printouts cut and ready for the activities.

Planning and learning : Planning activities and lesson aims

Maryam did several activities with the kids regarding inventions from the past
and present. She utilized technology where the children could use their own
tablets to research inventions and create a timeline showing how inventions
have progress from their inception to present. She had an engaging video and
modeled how the telephone has changed. The kids really enjoyed the lesson.

As a point of reflection, it would have been beneficial for Maryam to have


questions prepared beforehand for the children to follow to start the inquiry
process. A little guidance was needed for the children.

Implementing and managing Learning Language and delivery

Maryam did use timers to help move the learning activities on. It would be
beneficial to have the video and powerpoint up before the lesson starts to
avoid having to make the children wait.

Classroom management: Maryam will need to work on classroom


management strategies to always remain in control of the class. There are
times when the children are talking over her and not listening.
Communication skills

Maryam will continue to work on keeping her voice at reasonable level when
delivering her lessons. She tends to speak very loudly to try and over power
the noise level of the students.

Monitoring and Assessment

Maryam walked around and checked in on students as they were working on


their activities. However, Maryam needs to work on asking inquiry based
questions to engage the students and initiate the learning process. There were
several students not engaged in the activities and one group needed a lot more
guidance. Once again differentiation was not done and will be a focus for the
upcoming weeks.

Critical Reflection:

Maryam will work closely with me to help remedy some of the minor flaws in
her delivery of class lessons. After speaking with Mark (her college mentor) we
agreed that she should have two targets:

1) Differentiation
2) Inquiry based questions
