Sustainable Development:
-Sustainable development is the organizing principle for meeting human
development goals while at the same time sustaining the ability of natural systems to provide
the natural resources and ecosystem services upon which the economy and society depend.
The desired result is a state of society where living and conditions and resource use
continue to meet human needs without undermining the integrity and stability of the natural
systems.

While the modern concept of sustainable development is derived mostly from the 1987
Brundtland Report, it is also rooted in earlier ideas about sustainable forest management
and twentieth century environmental concerns. As the concept developed, it has shifted to
focus more on economic development, social development and environmental protection for
future generations.

Greenhouse Gases Effect:

-The greenhouse effect is the process by which radiation from a planet's
atmosphere warms the planet's surface to a temperature above what it would be without its
atmosphere.

If a planet's atmosphere contains radiatively active gases (i.e., greenhouse gases) they will
radiate energy in all directions. Part of this radiation is directed towards the surface, warming
it. The intensity of the downward radiation that is, the strength of the greenhouse effect
will depend on the atmosphere's temperature and on the amount of greenhouse gases that
the atmosphere contains.

Earths natural greenhouse effect is critical to supporting life. Human activities, primarily the
burning of fossil fuels and clearing of forests, have intensified the natural greenhouse effect,
causing global warming.
