1. How did I feel when I saw my practicum site? What are my apprehensions?
Complete the facial expression and explain why you feel this way.

Isabela State University-Roxas Campus has been

my second home for almost eight years. I witnessed
its by leaps and bounds, its improvements that alter
the mind of the people on how they view ISU-R before
and lead them to a wider perspective that this
institution is able to produce quality graduates who
are equip with morally upright values as well as a
repertoire of knowledge and a receptacle of skills.
It is but normal to feel excited because I will
be undergoing the highlight of my course which is the
pre-service training. Earlier before deployment, I
knew it already on what school they will be going to
deploy me due to the fact that some teachers permit
me to continue my Action Research at ISU-R. Yes! Its
my Alma Mater. Thats why when I once again saw my
practicum site, pressure immediately colonized my
vein and nervousness abruptly occupied my soul. Every
student of ISU-R Laboratory High School demands you
to prepare all the time. I knew it because I was one.
Every single meeting is like your final demonstration
teaching. It is really indispensable to perform well.
One thing more that adds pressure to me is that
maybe, I will not be able to meet the expectations of
my teachers as well as my students. It is quite
frustrating if that is so. But on the other hand, I
feel happy because it will not be difficult for me to
adjust into a new environment, and glad because I
know that my cooperating teachers has a storehouse of
knowledge and values as well as skills that they will
be going to impart to me in order to improve my

My Reflection/My Insights
My Reflections/My Insights

Am I really prepared to teach?

The common litany that runs if we talk about teaching is that it is the
noblest of all professions. Nothing is more profound profession than teaching for
teachers invest their own time, energy, and in the long run, invest their own lives
just to touch the lives of others, as they often say My Teacher My Hero. How
great is the feeling to be called hero. But then again, I always go back to the
question, am I really prepared to teach?
I do believe that three years of preparation is enough. I have gained a
repertoire of healthy knowledge, receptacle of good values, and storehouse of
useful skills.
A truly prepared teacher is someone who can make a difference in childs
life, to ignite curiosity and growth to their students. It is the most rewarding part of
teaching. But as much as teaching can be rewarding, it can also be frustrating and
stressful when dealing with unmotivated students, large classes, and heavy
workloads. Most frustrating one, teachers will sometimes have to deal with unruly
behavior and violence from students. These are all part of teaching. Teaching is
not simply teaching. You must ensure that your students are really learning from
you, how they assimilate the knowledge, imbibe the values, and foster the skills
must be monitor by you. You can only perform all these if you exhibit a sense of
preparedness in teaching. Going back again to the question, am I really prepared
to teach? I can say Yes I am. This is through the help of the people behind me
especially my cooperating teachers who continuously motivating me to strive, to
do my best, to make the most out of it in teaching. Although, I still have
something to learn in the field of teaching.
Preparedness and readiness are key factors to make teaching meaningful
and colorful. This will lead to a better development of the student and the teacher
as well.

the ability to think in an abstract manner, the ability to combine
and classify items in a more sophisticated way, and the capacity
for higher-order reasoning. The formal operational thinker has the
ability to consider many different solutions to a problem before
acting. This greatly increases efficiency, because the individual can
avoid potentially unsuccessful attempts at solving a problem.

My Practice Teaching Handbook and Portfolio Page 13

My Analysis

On my first encounter with my cooperating teacher, I realized that

Teaching is not an easy job. There are lots of preparations that need to be
finished; lesson plan, instructional materials, teaching methodologies, etc

Teachers are the breathe and life in the classroom, upon their shoulders lies
the future of the youth, they are the critical thread that ties the learners into a
lifelong process of learning.

I realized also that as a teacher, you must be prepare all the time;
physically, emotionally, and mentally, because there are really circumstances that
you dont expect to happen like misbehaviors, improper conducts, and
whatsoever flaws and inconsistencies. These add to the difficulty of the teaching
profession.

But then, I realized also that teaching is one of a kind profession for you
are helping, motivating, educating, and inspiring your students to bring out the
best of them, to reach their maximum potential. To invest your life just for the
sake of ones advancement is really a great sacrifice.

On my first dealing with the learners, I observed that

Student diversity is evident. This is one of the challenges in the teaching

profession; different learning styles, different levels of abilities, some are average
but multitude are fast learners, different behaviors, different beliefs, different set
of moral and ethical standards, and whatsoever differences. The teacher should
consider all these differences. You must be flexible and creative enough so that
you can address this kind of dilemma in order to satisfy the wants and needs of
every learner.

One thing more that I observed is that, they are not as lively as how they
perform in other subjects. I understood because it is a Mathematics subject, but
then dont allow this boredom occupies your students mind. Its the teachers
great responsibility to make his/her class lively and interactive.

This day, I fully realized that

I am really meant for teaching profession because

I still have to overcome my fears

Because these hinder me to perform my highest potential. I still
have anxieties that sometimes make me feel small. My self-confidence and
self-esteem decline. Especially when your cooperating teacher is observing,
I have this kind of feeling of stress. How I wish Im sick. Would

We should overcome all our fears and this in turn would make
us stronger and more confident. As soon as we overcome our fears, we
can face any unexpected challenge that may rise along our ways in
teaching.

I still have other options because

After analyzing the schools vision and mission and goals ofIsabela State University Roxas

I realized that

There is a great impact of quality education in the development of every

student and this will become possible through the help of effective teachers who
will shape students mind and transform students deviant behavior, to make
students the best individual and contributor of sustainable development of the
country. I realized also that as a teacher, you should also help students to have
morally upright values because this contributes to the advancement of every
learner.

So I need to

Strive more so that I can contribute to the attainment of the Vision,

Mission, Goals, and Objectives (VMGO) of my cooperating school and to the
sustainable development of the country.

I need also to practice, cooperate, and discover trending notions and ideas
about teaching so that I will exemplify the quality of an effective teacher.

My Activities

What innovations can I introduce to create order in my class home?

MY OWN
INNOVATIONS

Scheduling routine on a
weekly or monthly instead of
a daily basis.
Planning a routine for the
entire class rather than for
an individual or a group.
Plan a procedure for the
whole unit with a
corresponding time allotment
for each topic.
Giving clear and direct
instructions to avoid
guessing on what to do next.
Practicing some signals that
would mean the class is
about to start and they must
be ready.
Modeling time-conscious. Let
them see that you are
following the planned
routine.
My Practice Teaching Handbook and Portfolio Page 29
My Analysis

Establishing classroom routines is important because

It minimizes the time in instructing

students on what to do and not to do.
Routine can be a good motivation and
introduction. It leads teaching-learning
process into a smooth transition and
systematic conduct of the lesson. It helps
in achieving almost everything that is
planned; it serves as a guide in
controlling and managing deviant behavior.
Following a regular procedure make students
and teachers feel secure since they know
every step in the procedure. Most
especially, it builds a teachers
confidence in following a well-planned
procedure.

Routines also help to simplify a

complex environment and inform students
exactly what they expect, what is expected
of them and what acceptable behavior is.

My Practice Teaching Handbook and Portfolio Page 30

My Reflection/My Insights

If I already have my own class in the future, I want to employ

a social constructivist view of classroom.

This view of classroom acknowledges the
uniqueness and complexity of the learners,
but actually encourages, utilizes and
rewards it as an integral part of the
learning process. One thing more is that it
makes learning more attractive. Since it is
more student-centered, students might find
themselves more involved in the learning
situation.

So that in the long run

Learners with different skills and

backgrounds will collaborate in tasks and
discussions to arrive at a shared
understanding of the truth in a specific
field. One thing more is that students can
adapt themselves into the existing demand of
the society.

My Reflections/ My Insights

I think that I can do better if

I give more attention on the students who are not cooperative, doing non-sense thing
while the activity is going on. I should give them more activities to accomplish and also
present to them some set of criteria as their basis so that we can avoid a meaningless output.

I think I can do better also if:

preparation is ahead of time

I could focus thoroughly on my target tasks and objectives
There is no pressure in my environment
There is enough encouragement.

I realized/learned that

As teacher, you must know the interest of your students.

You must involve your total being in teaching.
You must consult always your cooperating teacher for comments and suggestions.
Planning and preparing ahead of time could cater active teaching-learning process.
There should always be a good rapport establish between the pre-service teacher and
the cooperating teacher. Often discussion is a must.

My Analysis

After writing my first lesson plan in my cooperating school, these are the things noted by my
cooperating teacher.

BEST FEATURES AND AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT

Strengths Weaknesses

The Lesson Plan is organized. The assessment is too advanced.

It is student-centered If possible, the three domains of

human learning should be present
Has the element of SMART
in the instructional objectives.
Every part jive with each other.
Use 2 or more references.

My Practice Teaching Handbook and Portfolio Page 57

My Reflection/My Insights

After writing my first lesson plan, I realized that it should be Specific, Measurable,
Attainable, Realistic, and Time-bound or SMART. One thing more, into this age of
globalization where everything steps up into a higher level, we should adapt into these
changes, we should make our lesson plan student-centered so that we can engage our
students more in the teaching-learning process. The more they are involved, the greater the
probability of higher learning and the longer it will retain.

I realized also that making lesson plan is important because this serves as a guide
towards targeting your goals. It is the roadmap intended for achieving lessons objectives.

I realized also that:

With careful planning, you are assured of an effective procedure and a complete
coverage of the subject that you aim to teach.
A good and reliable plan can definitely enhance your self-confidence together with
a relax and authoritative poise.
Your plan can be submitted to your cooperating teacher for comments and
suggestions, thus adding to your learning experience.
Experience gained from your daily lesson planning task conserve us well-earned
qualification for future classroom activities.

C. Lesson Proper

Today, we will be going to discuss

about Natural Logarithmic Function.

Anyone of you has an idea what is

natural logarithm?
Sir
Yes
A logarithm with the e as the base is called a
natural logarithm.

Very good.

In Calculus, the number that is commonly

used as a logarithm base is the number e
which was named by the German
Mathematician Leonard Euler. The number e
like pi is an irrational number. If pi is

My Practice Teaching Handbook and Portfolio Page 59

approximately equal to 3.14, how about the
value of e?

Anyone? Sir

Yes If the value of pi is approximately equal to

3.14, the value of e is approximately equal to
2.718.

Precisely!

A logarithm with e as the base is called

natural logarithm. To simplify the notation,
we write loge x as ln x.

Thus, ln 2 is an abbreviation for loge 2; ln 2 is

the exponent to which e must be raised in
order to get 2.

Natural Logarithm is given by this formula:

y = ln x or y = loge x
means the same as
ey = x

The common logarithm (base 10) and the

natural logarithm (base e) are the most
frequently used types of logarithms.

Is it clear class?

Lets proceed to the examples.

Find ln 2 437.

So we press the following keys on the

calculator.
2 4 3 7 ln, we got 7.798523.

Therefore, ln 2 437 = 7.798523 or e7.798523 = 2

437.

How about this class?

Find log2 7. log2 7 = log10 7/log10 2

= 0.845098/0.301030
=2.807355

Very good.

How about solving tit with the base e?

Who wants to answer on the board?

Sir

My Practice Teaching Handbook and Portfolio Page 60

Yes
log2 7 = loge 7/loge 2
= ln 7/ln 2
= 1.945910/0.693147
= 2.807355

Very good.

Notice that we get the same answer. We used

the common logarithm and the natural
logarithm respectively.

How about this one.

ln (-1.3)

Can we get its natural logarithm?

No sir because negative numbers do not have
logarithms. If we let y = ln (-1.3), then the
corresponding exponential equation would
be ey = (-1.3). However, this equation has no
solution, because e raised to power always
gives a positive result; it is impossible to
have ey = -1.3. Consequently, ln (-1.3) is
undefined.

Exactly!

How about if it is fraction like this.

Find ln .
ln = ln 3 ln 4
= 1.098612 1.386294
= -0.287682
Definitely.

Remember
The natural logarithmic versions of the laws
of logarithm s are shown below.
1. ln (xy) = ln x + ln y
2. ln x/y = ln x ln y
3. lnxp = p ln x

We have also properties of natural logarithms

1. ln 1 = 0 because e0 = 1
2. ln e = 1 because e1 = e
3. ln ex = x because ex = ex

Any question class?

None sir

Ok. Lets proceed to the next, the Natural

Exponential Function.

My Practice Teaching Handbook and Portfolio Page 61

The natural exponential function is y = ex.
Calculations that involve ex will be carried
out by using scientific calculator. The
resulting ordered pairs will be used to obtain
the graph of y = ex.

Examples.
Use a calculator to find the following values:
a. e d. 1/e2
b. 1/e e. e3
2
c. e

Who wants to answer?

Sir

Yes
a. To get e1, press 1 ln and get 2.7182.
b. To find 1/e, type 1 / ln and we get
0.3678. same is true in the following
numbers
c. e2 7.3890
d. 1/e2 0.1353
e. e3 20.0855

Very good.

But remember, they are all approximation.

Any question class?

None sir
Ok. Lets proceed to the next.
Exponential and Logarithmic Equations.

Let us now focus our study of exponential

and logarithmic functions on procedures for
solving exponential and logarithmic
equations.

Let us now consider the exponential equation

2x = 64.

As we know, we can obtain the solution by

rewriting the equation in the form 2x = 26

Hence, x = 6

Let us now consider the exponential equation

2x = 9.

Notice that we cannot use the method we

used in the first equation since we cannot
rewrite 9 with 2 as the base. To actually solve
for x, we take the logarithm with base 2 on
both sides.

log2 2x = log2 9
x = log2 9

My Practice Teaching Handbook and Portfolio Page 62

= log 9/log 2
= 3.1699

Are we going to get the same answer when Yes sir

we have ln 9/ln 2 instead of log 9/log 2?

Very good.

How to solve an exponential expression?

To solve an exponential expression;
Anyone? a. Isolate first the exponential
expression.
b. Take the logarithm of both sides.
c. Solve for the variable.

Exactly.
How about in solving a logarithmic equation?
To solve a logarithmic equation:
a. Rewrite the equation in exponential
form.
b. Solve for the variable.

Definitely.

D.Generalization

Again, what are the most frequently used

types of logarithms?

Common logarithm with a base 10 and

Natural logarithm with a base e.

Can we find the natural logarithm of positive

numbers?
Yes

How about negative numbers?

No sir because negative numbers do not have

logarithms.

IV.Evaluation

A. Evaluate each of the following for the

function f(x) = ex.

1. f(4)
2. f(-2)
3. f(3)
4. f(2.3)
5. f(-3.8)

B. Solve for x in the equation

Thank you Don-Don! On naming an arc,

you have to indicate three points on a
circle, in which the two points are the
end pints of the arc. On the figure KXL is
the minor arc.

An arc divides a circle into two parts:

the smaller arc is the minor arc and the
larger arc is the major arc.

Semicircle is a half of the circle.

A rainbow is an example of an arc.

Another form of arc is the semicircle. So

E. Valuing
Relating circle into real life, we are
always uttering about our life like a
wheel, that sometimes we are at
the top and we can do everything,
but at some moments we are down

After analyzing my score sheet, I realized that

Instructional materials are important as they provide detailed

information that may not otherwise be known about how to put together or use a
product. There are also instructional materials that educators use which provide
creative ideas to assist in the learning process. Finally instructional materials
can help one troubleshoot a product that is not functioning properly.

I realized also that using instructional materials is highly important

especially for a novice teacher. Teachers rely on instructional materials in every
aspect of teaching. They need materials for background information on the subject
they are teaching. Novice teachers usually have not built up their expertise whenever
they enter into the field. Teachers often use instructional materials for lesson
planning. These materials are also needed by teachers to assess the knowledge of
their students.

My Analysis

Complete the structured frames:

1. Assessment tools are needed because

These allow teachers to measure how well students have understood a topic.
Assessment tool like rubrics are important to grade the students performance. Once
the tools are designed, teachers share them with the students. This gives students an
understanding of what the evaluator will be looking for, and students can hone
their skills accordingly. In this method, students are learning even while being
tested.

2. I considered the following things when I prepared my first assessment tool.

Validity to measure what is intended to be measure, to ensure the

appropriateness, correctness, meaningfulness, and usefulness of the specific
conclusions that a teacher reaches regarding the teaching learning situation;
Reliability to ensure the consistency and accuracy of the test. A reliable test
therefore should yield essentially the same score when administered twice to
the same students;
Fairness so that students need to know exactly what the learning targets are
and what method of assessment will be used;
Practicality so that the test will be familiar to the teacher and does not
require too much time and is in fact implementable.
Efficiency because a complex assessment procedure tends to be difficult to
score and interpret resulting in a lack of misdiagnosis or a too long
feedback period which may render the test inefficient.

My Directions

To reach my goals, I need to do the following using this acronym.

B begin with the end in mind.

O organized the things to use.

A arrange all the information to be pasted.

R relate it to real life.

D design according to what the environment

demands.

My Practice Teaching Handbook and Portfolio Page 86

My Tasks

Design a miniature bulletin board on this page or paste one of the bulletin boards that struck
you most in your cooperating school.

My Practice Teaching Handbook and Portfolio Page 87

My Activities

Paste sample bulletin board displays on this page.

My Practice Teaching Handbook and Portfolio Page 88

My Analysis

Observing the varied bulletin boards in my cooperating school, I feel that the following areas
can still be improved

Especially in updating information. Some are obsolete or already have been done.
another thing is that there are some bulletin boards display that I think it is not
already important its all because the content is too traditional, what I am trying
to say is that the information to be pasted should adapt to the changes of the
environment. They should adapt into the existing demand of the world. All the
information to be pasted should be informative and at the same time comprehensive.

So that

We can build good and healthy information dissemination. Bulletin boards are one
of the ways on how to relay information. Thats why the information should all be
updated in order to inform the readers on what is presently happening on the
environment. So bulletin boards also promote self-awareness.

My Practice Teaching Handbook and Portfolio Page 89

My Reflections/My Insights

1. As a student teacher, I need to learn how to structure bulletin board so that

In the near future, I already have gained a repertoire of knowledge of knowledge on

how to design and structure a bulletin board. One thing more is that having
knowledge in making bulletin boards can also be of great help when you have now
your own class because aside from your major, you can also impart knowledge on
other areas especially on art.

2. What lesson did I learn when structuring/designing my bulletin boards?

Bulletin boards created around a universal concept can help students see the
connections that exist between and across various disciplines. The prompts of depth
and complexity can be integrated into the construction of a bulletin board to
further focus students study of the core content materials. Bulletin boards can
also serve as the catalyst to independent study projects based on students interest,
choice, and aptitude.

1. I learned that these skills

Are quite advantageous and beneficial in my chosen field because I can use
it in the near future for my own advancement and at the same time, for
the improvement of my future plans.

I learned that these skills are part of my profession which gives ample
knowledge which I can apply in my everyday living.

2. And I know that these will

Will also be fostered through the help of my cooperating teachers. In that

way, I can gain more knowledge more values, and more skills with regards
to non-teaching duties that a pre-service teacher should render.

GENERAL REFLECTION AFTER MY DEMONSTRATION.

What went well in my lesson? Why?

-Based on the comments of our panelist upon their observation on my demonstration

teaching, they said that I carried out effectively my lesson, there is congruence between
the lesson plan and the actual teaching.

What went wrong in my lesson? Why?

-Be time-conscious, give attention to those students who did not listen attentively and
participate actively, some daily routines are missed. Maybe this is due to nervousness.

What did my students learn?

-The concept of Trigonometric Identities and its relation to real-life.

What was learned about planning?

-Planning ahead of time is the most apt action of teacher to have a wonderful
presentation of lesson. Being prepared is one good feature of planning carefully.

What was learned about teaching?

-Teaching is a labor of dedicated service, selfless commitment, and serious calling for
the noble and proud teacher.

What improvements will I make to be more effective in my class/

-Sustain enthusiasm and dynamism throughout the whole cycle of the teaching-
learning process.

nothing can be a more ennobling act for a teacher to
see his work effectively done in the campus
accomplished through a labor of dedicated service,
selfless commitment, and his love to his student-
advisee. This makes the teaching profession a serious
noble calling but only for the few, the noble and proud

On my pre-service training, a lot of experiences gave

me lessons. The derivation formula in mathematics
amidst the transformation of behavior and characters.
The laughter of my students proved me that in every
problem, there is a big solution. So dont stop and
provoke instead step up and grow for the attainment of
your desires. The advises unexpectedly delivered when
my students need a comfort taught me to become
empathic and serious, all of these and many others are
worth cherishing and emulating
