Introduction
This is one of my mini-guides that can be used as a quick reference guide for a specific aspect of any
Harvest Moon or Rune Factory game. Sunshine Islands has many of the same characters as Island of Happiness and
those who do appear in both games tend to have the same birthdays, Most Favorites and other likes and dislikes in both.
Nonetheless, there are differences and a separate Character Guide thus is mandated for each.
Although this Characters Guide has sections devoted to each of the Eligible Girls and Bachelors, my
Courtship and Marriage Guide actually includes the schedules and texts of Heart Events and Rival Heart Events.
In the following sections, Eligible Bachelors are listed first, followed by Eligible Girls, then all other
Characters and finally the Harvest Sprite Teams. This follows the official order of characters in your Assets List if your
character is a girl.
Social Interactions in Sunshine Islands

In both Harvest Moon and Rune Factory, Friendship will be found at the very top of the list of priorities.
In Sunshine Islands, simply 'Meeting and Greeting' all Characters daily will advance Love and/or Friendship levels.
Furthermore, it will persuade Characters to accept the Gifts that will raise Love and/or Friendship even faster.
In Sunshine Islands, you can meet many of the main Characters at the start of the game. When you first
meet a Character, however, he/she will not accept any Gifts from you. It is considered improper to do so. People will
tell you that they 'need to know you better' or that they do not 'need' the item you offer. It therefore is perceived
somewhat as a favor to YOU as well as a sign of friendship when an individual accepts any Gift.
The only exception is that, in the early Spring in the first year, a Character will accept a Gift on his/her
Birthday even if that individual would continue to reject Gifts from you on any other day. This is why Vaughn will
accept a Birthday Gift on 3 Spring when other Characters continue to reject Gifts from you still.
As in other Harvest Moon games, each Character has specific Likes and Dislikes and there is both a Most
Favorite Gift and a Gift of Horror that will affect Love and/or Friendship Levels far more than any other item. The
specific likes and dislikes of each Character are found in my Characters Guide. For details of all the Heart and Rival
Heart Events for Eligible Girls and Eligible Bachelors, please refer to my Courtship and Marriage Guide.
As in Island of Happiness, even when an individual has accepted Gifts from you on prior occasions,
neglect will lead to a refusal of any Gift. The number of days that your Gift will be refused depends both on the length
of the period of neglect as well as your Friendship Level with the individual.
There are many benefits that can be obtained only through Friendship. The most important of these is the
Gift of a Sun Stone that is obtained when you have given five items received 'with music' to any individual. Any owner
of a Shop/House will give a Sun Stone when you enter the building after attaining 2 Hearts with that individual and
other members of the family who live there. Note that obtaining this 'owner's' Sun Stone is a requirement for marriage
for any Eligible Girl/Bachelor who has his/her own House or Ship. It is possible that the 'owner' or 'head of household'
Sun Stone Event will not trigger if you did not receive the 'personal' Sun Stone given in return for five preferred Gifts
previously. It is imperative, therefore, to give at least 5 Gifts that are received 'with music' to EVERY Character as
early as possible in the game.
Other benefits are the ability to experience special Events with characters when they have reached 6 Hearts
or 35,000 Friendship Points. If more than one individual is involved in an Event, all must be at 6 Hearts before the
Event will trigger.
Friendship Point Values

The following are the actions that will increase or decrease Friendship with an individual with their point
values.
Actions that increase Friendship/Affection:
Meeting and Greeting an Individual on any ordinary day: 100 points
Meet and Greet any Individual during a Festival: 400 points
Show any Individual an Animal he/she loves: 100 points
Give a Gift an Individual likes: 100 point to 800 points depending on the Gift
Give a Birthday Gift an individual likes: 300 points to 2400 points
Actions that decrease Friendship/Affection:
Neglecting to meet and greet an Individual on any ordinary day: -100 points (*You have a
30% chance of losing Friendship with any individual. This decrease will not occur 70% of
the time.
Showing any individual an Animal he/she dislikes: -100 points
Give an Gift an individual dislikes: -300 to -5000 points
Littering on an individual's home island or on Meadow Island: -100 points
Littering inside an individual's dwelling: -300 points
As you can see, if you are diligent with a daily 'meeting and greeting' ritual that includes all characters on
all the Islands, you will raise Friendship levels even if you never give a single Gift. Social interactions are extremely
important in Sunshine Islands. In fact, neglecting an Individual not only can cause him/her to reject a Gift when you
next meet, but can cause a decrease in Heart Level. As you can see from the point value list, the results are random,
occurring only 1/3 of the time, but it CAN occur.
As previously stated, however, you cannot obtain the personal Sun Stone that a Character has to give until
you have given 5 Gifts that are received 'with music' to that individual. Once you have received the Sun Stone, you can
simply meet and greet the individual daily if you cannot afford Gifts yet.
Furthermore, where any Character has a second Sun Stone to give as 'Owner' or 'Head of Household', the
experience of players has shown that you cannot even trigger the 'Owner/Head of Household' Sun Stone Event until
you have obtained that individual's 'personal' Sun Stone first.
Friendship and Festivals

In most Harvest Moon games, there are both Romantic Festivals and Festivals associated with Friendship
in the sense that dialogue and even the Events during the Festival will vary depending on your degree of Friendship
with participants.
Speaking to any individual at ANY Festival will increase your Friendship Level, so it always is important
to speak to every one at Meadow Island during any Festival or animal Contest Event. In some cases, the Festival will
end abruptly after you speak to the organizer, so it always is best to speak to every one BEFORE you speak to the
organizer of the Contest or Festival Event. In the case of any Festival where you have an opportunity to speak to other
attendees both before and after the main Event, you will not gain extra Friendship points by doing so but you will
experience different dialogues from each!
In Sunshine Islands, the participation of other characters in the Snow Festival is determined by Friendship
Levels. No Bachelors or Eligible Girls apart from Alisa will attend this Festival. The object of the Festival is to build a
snowman with Gannon. Any character who is at 6 Hearts or above will accept your invitation to join in the project.
Any character below 6 Hearts will refuse your invitation. The size of the Snowman built depends on the number of
individuals who build it.
The Fireworks Festival is a Romantic Festival to some extent. The Fireworks display will occur even if
you do not have any Eligible Girl/Bachelor at sufficient heart level to watch with you, but you can experience a special
little Romantic Event if any Eligible Girl/Bachelor is at 6 Hearts or higher. You then will have the opportunity to watch
the display with any Eligible Girl/Bachelor who has reached that Heart Level. Otherwise, you will watch it with
Gannon. A Festival that is even more Romantic is the Harvest Goddess Festival. All the Girls perform a special Dance
in honor of the birthday of the Harvest Goddess. If any Eligible Girl/Bachelor is at Green Heart Level, you will obtain
an option on the previous day to escort or be escorted to the Festival Dance.
With respect to Festivals, it is worth noting that houses and shops are not locked AFTER the Festival ends.
If, therefore, a Character does not attend the Festival, it is possible to 'meet and greet' the individual at his/her usual
location afterwards. Shops in fact will be open for business as well. The icons of Characters, however, will not appear
on the Map on Festival Days.
Friendship Events in Sunshine Islands

There are three different categories of Events in Sunshine Islands: Heart Events, Rival Heart Events and
Friendship Events. Heart Events and Rival Heart Events involve Courtship, whether by your Character or your Rival
and therefore have been included in the Courtship and Marriage Guide. Friendship Events may involve Eligible Girls
and Bachelors as well as other Characters but are not related to Courtship. Friendship Events, therefore, are included
in this Characters Guide.
All Friendship Events require a Friendship Level of a little more than 6 Hearts. Usually this requirement
pertains to every Character involved in the Event. Remember that the real requirement is a specific number of
Friendship Points and not the number of Heart Icons that appear on the Relations/Characters page. If you cannot
trigger a specific Friendship Event and the Weather or time of day is not the cause, you probably need to raise the
Friendship Level of one of the Characters a little higher.
Characters List in Sunshine Islands

You will find a Characters or Relations Page in your Farm Menu when you access your Assets Menu. It
has two sections. The first is devoted to all Villagers, including Eligible Bachelors/Girls and Magical Characters such
as the Harvest Goddess, Witch Princess and Witchkins. It includes the seasonal Mineral Town visitors as well. The
other 'page' or section is devoted to the Harvest Sprites of Sunshine Islands. Sprites are divided into Teams that are
designated by color as in other Harvest Moon games. Their Team likes and dislikes are shared by the entire team
although I have given individual responses to items.
Each Character has been given his/her own section. The 'official information' from the Characters section
in the Assets Menu is provided first, followed by the character's birthday, likes and dislikes and actual responses and
dialogue.
ELIGIBLE BACHELORS
ELLIOT
Resident Name: Elliot

Gender: Male
Family: Taro, Felicia, Natalie
Favorites: Crops
Dislikes: Dairy products
Official Description: Natalie's meek-but-kind elder brother. He is constantly striving to be manlier, but his efforts are
usually in vain.
Birthday: 21 Summer
Elliot is a shy, rather insecure young man who is part of Taro's family and therefore will be among your
first acquaintances on the Island. His sister Natalie is outspoken and headstrong and takes every opportunity to
puncture Elliot's vanity, although she loves him deeply. Felicia is the mother of Elliot and Natalie and Taro is their
grandfather. You can find Elliot every morning inside Taro's house. Speak to him even if you cannot give him a gift to
raise his heart level. If you are playing the game as a boy, Elliot will be your rival for Julia's affections and indeed, you
will find them together often, as they are both neighbors and close friends.

Romance Tip: Elliot lives with his family, including his grandfather Taro. You probably should visit Taro each
morning to discover the weather forecast for the following day. When you do so, simply speak to Elliot to raise his
heart level as well. Your first Spring crops of Turnips and Potatoes are gifts that Elliot prizes, although Potatoes are
even more of a favorite than Turnips. If you can afford to give crops to him, do, but you will find that his heart level
increases if you simply speak to him daily. As in IoH, he is one of the most easily accessible bachelors in SI.
Elliot's Schedule: From 6.00 a.m. to 8.50 a.m. you always can find Elliot at Taro's house. It is most convenient to
speak to him at the same time that you visit Taro for the weather prediction each day.
Elliot's Friendship Events

Although all Heart and Rival Heart Events are included only in the Courtship and Marriage Guide,
Friendship Events are included here. Friendship Events in Sunshine Islands occur when all Participants reach 6 Hearts.
Natalie's Father
You will experience a special Event about Felicia's husband when Felicia, Natalie and Elliot all reach 6
Hearts. Simply enter Taro's house. The actual text is included in the section devoted to Natalie.
VAUGHN
Resident Name: Vaughn

Gender: Male
Family: N/A
Favorites: Animal Products
Dislikes: Vegetables
Official Description: His job is bringing in animals from other islands. He doesn't talk to people much, but he's very
kind to animals.
Birthday: 3 Spring
Vaughn is a loner who transports animals to and from the Island. He has no family and is suspicious of
people, only letting down his guard when he is with animals. He visits the Island only on Mondays and Tuesdays,
leaving each week on Tuesday nights. If you are playing as a boy, Vaughn will be your Rival for Sabrina.
Most Favorite Gift: Porridge (+800 Points)

Romance Tip: Although speaking to Vaughn each day he visits the Island will raise his Heart Level slowly, due to the
fact that he only visits the Island two days each week, he is one of the more difficult bachelors to court. It therefore is
advisable to give him a gift each day you see him. Chocolate, as well as Pet Food, can be purchased from Chen's
Market from the start. Both of these are items that Vaughn will accept 'with music'. Pet Food, however, is far less
expensive at 10G and has the same result as the Chocolate that costs 100G. Until you have the ability to give him items
that excite him more, Pet Food is a very good option for Vaughn. His is the first birthday on 3 Spring, so try to give
him Pet Food purchased from Mirabelle then.
If you are serious about courting Vaughn, you need to switch to 'Porridge' as soon as you can afford to do
so. Where conversation on a daily basis with other bachelors suffices to raise heart levels slowly but steadily, speaking
to Vaughn on Mondays and Tuesdays each week or even giving lesser Gifts will not raise his levels very quickly. Gifts
of Porridge are the best way to raise his Heart Level if you are determined to win him as early as possible in the game.
Vaughn's Schedule: He will visit the Islands only on Monday and Tuesday, beginning his day at Mirabelle's Animal
Shop. You will find him walking outside on Sprout Island near the Cafe after that. In the evening, he goes alone to
Meadow Island.
DENNY
Resident Name: Denny

Gender: Male

Official Description: He has earned his living as a fisherman since he was a kid. An incurable optimist who believes
that every one should always smile.
Birthday: 26 Fall

Romance Tip: Giving Denny ANY size of Fish will delight him. He is easily accessible at the Beach. Fishing is an
important resource early in the game. Try to speak to Denny daily when you go fishing and if you can spare one, give
him a Small Fish to raise his heart level further.
Denny's Friendship Events

MARK
Gender: Male
Family: N/A
Favorites: None in Particular
Dislikes: None in Particular
Official Description: A boy who loves nature. He views being a rancher as his ideal way of life.
Birthday: 27 Winter
Mark is your male counterpart. He may be the last eligible bachelor that you will meet. You will meet
him when you have raised Mushroom Island, Mystic Islands, Volcano Island, Animal Island and Link Island. Mark is
not impressed with gifts and they do not raise his heart level significantly, although any item will be accepted
cheerfully. It is more important that you speak to him regularly in order to raise his Heart Level. Mark's Heart Level
DOES increase whenever you win a contest at a Festival. You can give Mark almost any item, even a Weed and he will
accept it happily but you never will see him take a gift 'with music' to signify that it is a 'Most Favorite'. As previously
stated, gifts per se do not raise or lower his heart level. It is daily conversation that will have the effect of raising his
Heart Level.
Romance Tip: Try to speak to Mark daily if you wish to court him. You can give him any gift, even a Weed, and he
will thank you politely but it is conversation and winning contests at Festivals that are the keys to his heart.
PIERRE

Official Description: A member of the Gourmet family, famous for being food critics. He is training on the islands
because of their abundance of fresh food.
Birthday: 13 Spring
If you have met the Gourmet in other Harvest Moon games, you will recognize Pierre as a member of the
same family by his clothing and his enthusiasm for food, but he is by far the cutest Gourmet in Harvest Moon. Pierre
will have his own house on Verdure Island at the start of the game, unlike Island of Happiness where he had to be
persuaded to come. If you are playing the game as a boy, Pierre will be your Rival for Natalie's affections.

Official Description: A member of a clan of hunters. He's a bit naive because he lived in seclusion with his foster
father. He came to the islands as part of a test.
Birthday: 2 Winter
Shea in appearance resembles one of the 'Lost Boys' in Peter Pan and in fact, lives an existence that would
be envied by most boys who feel themselves shackled to 'civilization' and all its rules and regulations. He is a primitive
hunter raised by his foster father Wada, descendant of an ancient native 'tribe'. You will not meet Shea until you raise
Mushroom Island. Ask Kirk for a ride to the Island in order to experience the introduction to Shea. If you are playing
as a boy, Shea will not be a rival for any girl's affections.

Romance Tip: Shea is another character who will be delighted by the gift of even a Small Fish. Fishing regularly
brings new arrivals to the Island and keeps existing inhabitants and visitors in place. Keep a stack of Small Fish in
your Rucksack and give one to Shea whenever you see him. Make certain that you give one to Wada at the same time.

her teasing of Elliot can be almost cruel at times, but in fact she loves him deeply. If you are playing as a girl, Natalie
will be your Rival for Pierre.

Whether deliberate or accidental, if you throw or drop any item onto the ground
or into the sea, it is considered littering and this is the delight of the
Witch Princess. As an act that will lower the affection level of the Harvest
Goddess, it makes the Witch Princess even happier to see you litter.
Therefore, when you throw or drop an item for the first time, you will
experience a little Visitation Event with the Witch Princess as follows:
Ding-dong! Did you just throw something away? The person you annoyed will
trust you less because of it. Do you wanna continue on the path of evil?

If you continue to throw or drop items, there will be no mention of this from
her until you have dropped your 10th item. She then will appear once again to

Chelsea is your female counterpart if your character is a boy. She will appear
on the Island only after you have achieved more than 50% completion. For this
to occur, you must have raised Mushroom Island, Mystic Islands, Volcano
Island, Animal Island and Link Island.
Giving gifts is not the way to win Chelsea's heart. As with Mark, her heart
levels increase significantly only when you win Contests at Festivals.
Speaking to her daily will result in a slow increase and she will accept all
items cheerfully as gifts even if they do not affect her affection level much.
Romance Tip: Like Mark, it is important to speak to Chelsea regularly and to
win Festivals if you wish to court her. Items given as gift have little
value.

Nonetheless, Taro's weather predictions are very useful in terms of knowing
when to make certain all animals are inside their barns at night.
Taro will give you your first Sun Stone when you experience the Sun Stone Event
on Meadow Island. When you purchase the Large Rucksack at his Market, you
will experience a little Event outside your Farmhouse the next morning wherein
Taro will give you another Sun Stone, claiming that he found it in the

pigs like other kinds of food too, so try ffedin' em other stuff. They got
their likes an' dislikes, though. They don't like fish, fer example. They
can pretty much eat anythin' else, though Also, pigs have a great sense of
smell, so you can use 'em to find mushrooms! To do that, release the pig on
Mushroom Island. It'll run into the bushes. When it comes out, it'll have a
mushroom in its mouth, and be runnin' around all crazy! When you catch the
pig, you can take the mushroom! But if you don't catch the pig after awhile,
it'll eat the mushroom. Pigs'll only find mushrooms once a day. You gots to
wait a day till they'll search again. Oh, one more thing. Pigs only search
fo rmushrooms after entering the bushes. If you pick up the pig before it
enters the bushes, it'll get mad, and stop searchin'! Oh, yeah, somethin'
elsem, too! Pigs can sometimes find rare mushrooms! Oh, and the pigs don't
seem to like it if you try to take 'em off Mushroom Island Probably 'cause
they eat the mushrooms here, so careful where you keep 'em
Chen; You can just keep your pig here, Freya. Gannon is a master carpenter,
so he can build a pig pen for your pig on this island.

The Mineral Town characters who visit Sunshine Islands are not eligible for
marriage as they are married to your old rivals in FoMT/MFoMT. Cliff and Dr.
Trent each stay for a season. Karen and Popuri visit together and stay for
two seasons. All Mineral Town visitors stay in guest rooms at Carol's Inn on
Sprout Island. You therefore will find at least one Mineral Town character on
the Island at each season of the year. You will discover that the items they

Schedule: Karen and Popuri tend to stay together throughout the day as they
visit various locations. At night before 10.00 p.m., you will find them on
the Beach of Sprout Island. Any one who is familiar with FoMT/MfoMT will
recall that Karen loves to take long walks along the sea.

Vacationing Friends
Characters from Mineral Town are seasonal visitors both in Island of Happiness
and Sunshine Islands. On the 1st day of Autumn, Dr. Trent, Summer's visitor,
will come to your house to bid you farewell and on 2 Autumn, Karen and Popuri
will announce their arrival. Trent and Cliff visit for one season each but
Karen and Popuri stay on the Islands from Autumn to Spring.

Popuri and Karen come into the house, filing into the room in single file to
stand before me.

Karen: Hi! My name's Karen. We're here on vacation, so we'll be staying on
the island until spring. Nice to meet you!

Popuri: We'll be at the Inn, so come and see us any time!
Karen: Well, we should get going. Bye!

*This actually is arrant nonsense on her part as Mineral Town has a very fine
beach and Popuri's husband Kai has a seasonal Beach Cafe. I think what she
probably intends to convey is the fact that Mineral Town is not located on an
Island.
Standing with Karen at the Well on Verdure Island on a snowy Tuesday afternoon
at 2.00 p.m.:
Popuri: I really think Felicia looks like my mom.
Karen says only: Hmm. The wind feels nice.
KIRK

Official Description: A boater who loves the ocean and spends most of his time
on his boat.
Kirk is your pilot for the boat that ferries you between the Islands before you
obtain a Teleport Stone. You can pilot your own boat to Lighthouse Island but
any other destination requires Kirk's services. Taking the boat to every
Island frequently has rewards in the form of Sun Stones.
Speak to Kirk without opening the Island menu to increase his Friendship. A
gift of Small Fish is much appreciated by him. As with any Character, when
you have given him five Gifts that he accepts 'with music', you will be given
a Sun Stone in return.

do not keep. Martin, in fact, will take the other kitten. Each time you
raise his Friendship to the next level, he may acquire another cat and you
will find all of them in his house when you visit him.

A veteran miner with over 20 years of experience. He is quiet and looks
unfriendly, but is kind to dogs.
When Mirabelle brings two puppies to your house and asks you to choose one, the
puppy that is not chosen will go to Slater. From that point, you will find
him with his dog when you visit him in his house near the pier. Each heart
level you earn with him will increase his dog population.
Slater's house is situated in the southwestern corner of Verdure Island.
You can give him any Ore apart from Junk Ore and he will respond 'with music'.

HARVEST SPRITES TEAMS
The Harvest Sprites are divided into Teams and each Team has specific likes and
dislikes but, as in most Harvest Moon games, Flour tends to be a universally
acceptable Gift for Sprites. Although only the Red Sprite Team's official
description of a favourite Gift is Flour, other Sprites from all the different
teams respond enthusiastically to it as well. As with human Characters, a
response 'with music' indicates that the Gift is favoured.
RED SPRITES
The Red Sprites in Sunshine Islands are in charge of various Islands, including
the Harvest Sprite Island, Meadow Island and Animal Island. The first Sprite
who will introduce himself to you is Coral, who manages the Harvest Sprite
Island and performs all Enchantments.
When you have visited Harvest Sprite Island, an Event will occur to introduce
you to Agete on Meadow Island. Agete is in charge of the raising of all
sunken Islands and will use the power of the Sun Stones you give to him to
raise the islands you designate.
When you raise Animal Island, you will be able to meet Cherry, who pops out of
a stump to speak to you about the Wild Animals on the Island. Once you have
raised the affection of the Wild Animals, Cherry will be able to ask them to
help you by providing specific types of items at your behest.

Introduction Event:
Hi, Freya. Nice to meet you. Come over here.
Cherry: I'm Cherry and I live on animal Island. I live with the wild animals
here. Freyr, I hope you and the animals will get along! The animals are a
bit timid, so they might hide from you at first. But, if you feed them, they
might show themselves to you some day!
A feeder has appeared.
Put food here to feed the animals. Animal feed can be bought at Mirabelle's
shop, but you can place anything edible here. But be careful. Wild animals
can't eat any cooked dishes. Give the animal feed to the animals to become
friends with them. If you become friends with the wild animals, something
good might happen. This island has many kinds of wild animals, but each has
their own preferences. For example, handing out mouse food will get mice to
come out. It'll be fun figuring out which animal likes what. When you want
to meet animals you normally don't, just come to this island.
Interesting trivia. If you try to talk to Cherry while holding a wild animal,
he will scold you!
Cherry: Put down the animal before you talk to me! It's rude to the animal!
The animal didn't mind though
Coral
Coral is the first Harvest Sprite you will meet. He will introduce himself in
a little Event outside your Farmhouse. You then will be able to visit Harvest
Sprite Island, where he manages all the Sprite Teams by taking your requests
for Enchantments.

When you give a non-favourite gift to Coral such as Gelatin: We're going to
