This video is an animated video that shows the life cycle of an apple tree. It begins with
how an apple seed gets to the ground and continues until the tree is fully grown and
producing fruit. This video allows the students to see the different stages of the life

EXPLICIT INSTRUCTION Big Idea Statement

An apple tree goes through stages during its life cycle starting as a seed, growing roots,
having leaves, flowering, and then having fruit.

Essential Question Statement

What are the stages of the life cycle of an apple tree in order?

Objective Statement (Audience, Behavior, Condition, Degree)

In order for the students to fully understand the order of the stages of the life cycle of
an apple tree, the students will individually color in the illustrations on each page with
crayons at their desks 6 out of 6 pages while reading the book as a whole class.

While reading through the book as a class, students will, individually, highlight the high

Modeling of the Concept

As the students color and highlight the different parts in the book as we read through it,
complete a book with them. This way the students know what they are expected to do.

Guiding the Practice

Ask the students to give me five (raise their hand) when they are done. Once everyone
is done, have the students raise their completed page into the air and walk around to
quickly view the students work
Providing Independent Practice
Students will independently go through the book and underline the vocabulary words
found in the book.
