The students will create, draw, and color a picture to go along with each page of a book.
The book goes through the different stages of the life cycle of an apple tree. This lesson
focuses on the order of the stages of the life cycle of an apple tree as well as the
vocabulary of the lesson. The lesson is based on these eight standards.

This video is an animated video that shows the life cycle of an apple tree. It begins with
how an apple seed gets to the ground and continues until the tree is fully grown and
producing fruit. This video allows the students to see the different stages of the life
cycle. It will help the students to see the life cycle in a visual way as well as auditory
because of the narration.
EXPLICIT INSTRUCTION Big Idea Statement
An apple tree goes through stages during its life cycle starting as a seed, growing roots,
having leaves, flowering, and then having fruit.
What are the stages of the life cycle of an apple tree in order?
In order for the students to fully understand the order of the stages of the life cycle of
an apple tree, the students will individually color in the illustrations on each page with
crayons at their desks 6 out of 6 pages while reading the book as a whole class.
While reading through the book as a class, students will, individually, highlight the high
frequency words as they see them through the book successfully 90% of the time in
order to recognize the words.
