Course Description: Flute Choir includes the large flute choir and small ensembles.

Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to play more in tune together and blend with each
others sound, and will become more proficient in sight reading and working together.

Required Materials: Well-working flute, pencil, music (all will be passed out in rehearsal or
posted on the board outside my door). If you are assigned a harmony flute part
(alto/bass/contrabass), you will be permitted to sign them out in order to practice and will be
responsible for coming to my office before and after rehearsals to get them.

Course Requirements:
Attendance: Attendance is required at every rehearsal and performance. If you are ill, please let
me know ASAP. Everyone is expected to participate in flute choir and assigned small ensembles,
and all ensembles will perform on the flute choir recital. Small ensembles will be required to
rehearse at least once a week outside of our W/F rehearsals, and one of the W/F rehearsals will
be dedicated to coaching small ensembles weekly. We will schedule these coachings once all
small ensembles have been assigned.

Performances:
We will perform several times throughout the semester and attendance is required at all listed
events.
Friday, October 13- Flute Choir Recital
Sunday, October 29- Hallowinds
Sunday, November 5- Flute Festival
Tuesday, November 28- Woodwind Night

Semester Schedule/Content:
Flute choir will rehearse every Wednesday and Friday EXCEPT for the following: October 18,
November 23 & 25, December 1.
Assessment/Grading Criteria: Students will be assessed every week in rehearsal on their
preparation, performance, and how they are working with each other. There is no final during
finals week- your performances count instead.

Weekly assessment & attendance: 70%


Performances: 30%

"Students whose names who do not appear on the class list will not be
permitted to participate (take exams or receive credit) without first showing proof of
registration by no later than Sept. 11
Withdrawal Policy:
The last day to add or drop a class is Sept. 12th and the last day to
withdraw (WD) from a class is Oct. 16th.
Plagiarism:
Under University Rule 3359-41-02, plagiarism constitutes a type of student
misconduct that is punishable by formal disciplinary probation, suspension, or dismissal from

University Closing Policy / Class Cancellation:
Call 330.972.SNOW for university cancellations and check the Brightspace site in event of
inclement weather. Unexpected class cancellation notices will be distributed via email and the
course Brightspace site.
