CHAPTER WISE VALUE BASED QUESTIONS

FOUR MARK QUESTION ANSWERS

Unit -1
1. India is a power shortage country, It receives almost 3000 hours of sunshine each year. Solar power
does seem to be the answer to Indias energy crisis. Government promoting the use of solar energy
by giving subsidies on solar panels for generation of electricity.
After reaching the above passage answer the following questions.
I. What is a solar panel?
II. Why is there a need to harness solar energy? Give two reasons.
III. What is difference in the semiconductors obtained by doping silicon with P and with
B?
IV. Mention the values associated with the usage of solar panel for generation of
electricity.
Ans:
I. A solar panel consist of a large number of solar cells joined together in a definite pattern. A
solar cell is an efficient photo diode which converts light energy into electrical energy.
II.
a) Fossil fuel are depleting and population is increasing
b) Demand for energy is increasing to improve quality of life.
III. Si doped with pentavalent P is a n- type semiconductor, while Si doped with trivalent B
(Boron) is a p type semiconductor.
IV. Concern for energy crisis, concern for environmental protection, Awareness.
SOLUTIONS
Q.1) Sonu went for fishing to a near by lake. He noted that it was more difficult to find fishes in winter
than in summer. The fishes were deep inside the river, whereas during summer they were near the
surface and hence he was able to catch fishes. Answer the following questions :
1) Why are fishes near the surface in summer than in winter?
2) Give any two examples where same reason is applicable.
3) What values can be derived about Sonu?
Answer :-
i) According to Henrys Law, at low temperature, gases are more soluble and hence more oxygen gets
dissolved in winter. So fishes are able to survive better even in depth of the river. In summer, as the
oxygen is less soluble in water. hence the fishes come near to the surface where oxygen
concentration is higher.
ii) Breathing by animals and manufacture of carbonated drink are the two examples where Henrys law
is applicable.
iii) Sonu is a good observant, curious and he rationalize.

CO-ORDINATION COMPOUND
Q. 1) Mohan has selected chemistry investigatory project to estimate hardness of water samples
collected from different places. He went to his school and his teacher discussed about the EDTA and
titration. Answer the following questions.
a) Explain the term EDTA
b) What is the importance of his project for the city?
c) What values are associated with Mohan to select this project?
d) Suggest one application of co-ordination compound in medicinal field.
Answer
a)EDTA -- It is a hexadentate ligand its name is Ethylene diaminetetra acetate.
b) This project helps to estimate the hardness of water and about the knowledge of quality of
water in city.
c)Value - Social responsibility, Scientific knowledge , Environment concern (Any one)
d) Application - Cis platin as anticancer.
HALOALKANES AND HALOARENES

Q.1) An organic compound X is manufactured by heating a mixture of chloral and chlorobenzene in the
presence of Conc. H2SO4 and is used as an insecticide. The use of compound was banned in the USA in
1973 although it is still in use in some other parts of the world. This compound is very effective against
mosquitoos which spread malaria.
Answer the following questions based on above information.
a) Name the compound X. Give its structural formula.
b) Why is the use of compound X banned in many countries ? Should we also advocate the ban of this
compound in our country also?
c) Which value is reflected in its ban ?

Q.2) Ram and Shyam while going back home from school were discussing about frons that they learnt in the
chemistry class. Shyam was suggesting Ram that the government should control the use of frons because
eventually frons make its way into stratosphere.
Answer :- a) What are frons ?
b) How is fron12 prepared ?
c) Why did Shyam suggest that the use of frons should be controlled? What will happen if they
reach the stratosphere?
d) What value is displayed by Shyam ?
