Job and Christ
All Scripture points toward Jesus. “Scripture” that does
not point to Jesus is not Scripture at all. Because we
believe this about Scripture, we must always look to
how a particular book might show us something about
Jesus. Here are some possible ways that the book of Job
can help you understand the person and work of Jesus:

• Job is looking for a redeemer – As a hopeless,

sinful human being, Job is looking for someone to
come and rescue him from the state that he is in.
One of our most popular Easter hymns, “I Know
that My Redeemer Lives” comes from a line in Job.
The book of Job shows the hope and need of a
Savior.
• Job, like Christ, suffers innocently – Job is not
completely innocent, no human being since Adam
and Eve have been created without the stain of
original sin. Job is, however, innocent of the
specific sufferings that the devil is leveling against
him. Christ also suffered innocently, but the
difference between Him and Job is that Christ was
completely innocent and because of that He could
die for our sins and be our redeemer.
• Job, like Christ, is restored – After the suffering
of Job, he is restored not to the level which he had
before his suffering, but to a greater level.
Similarly, Scripture tells us that when Jesus is
restored to full life He is restored and given even
greater glory because of His redemption of
mankind.
• What can you find? – Consider how you might
find the book of Job or any book of the Bible
pointing to Jesus.
Please don’t throw this away. If you’re not going to use it, leave it for
someone else to use.
