Pre-Observation Form

1. What is the topic of your lesson?

Bullying

2. Why are you teaching this lesson? What is your rationale for teaching it?

I am teaching this lesson because when I was doing a survey a couple of kids said they

were being bullied. By teaching them about bullying they can identify bullying and try

and stop/ not be bullies.

3. What is your Teaching Behavior Focus? Why did you choose this?

Lesson and Unit Planning and Presentation because I want students to understand my

lesson plan and to make sure that I am assessing their prior knowledge about bullying. I

want to make sure the lesson it catered to what students already know and what more

they need to know.

4. Why did you design your instruction in this lesson the way that you did? Why did you

choose this way of teaching the lesson (e.g., Was the idea from a methods course? From

your mentor teacher? Another source?)

I followed the format of what my mentor teacher does, I included lots of pictures for

emergent learners and for English language learners. I did a read aloud because my

professor talks about how important and engaging they are.

5. As you are thinking through this lesson, what do you believe will be the most challenging

part of this lesson for you when you teach it? Why?

I think the most challenging part will be the booklet because some students may have a

hard time writing their sentences. In order to combat this I will walk around and help
those students come up with ideas.

6. How will you know if your learning outcomes for the students are met successfully?

I will know they are met successfully by the activity on the board to see if students can

identify what bullying is and what it is not and by listening to their conversations while

making their booklets.

7. How will your classroom management support the learning outcomes?

I will need to make sure that all of the students are paying attention to the story and the

full class activity because if they do not they will not be able to do the booklet. Also, if

some of the students are not paying attention at all it will be hard for any of students to

learn anything even if they are paying attention because the other students would be to

distracting.

8. List 1-3 areas which you would like for your observer to pay particular attention. Why

do you want your observer to focus on these areas?

I want the observer to pay attention to my behavior management skills because I think

this is an incredibly important skill in teaching. Also listen to how I respond to students

questions and ideas because I want to see if I am responding in a way that helps them

learn and is me not just giving them the answer.

9. Is there anything else you would like your observer to know before the observation?

No I do not think so.
