Setting/Time: Small group in the hallway

Procedures The lesson consists of presenting the students with the


steps to solve these types of problems. Read a
step,then do the step on a whiteboard for a student.
There will be a print out of the list of steps that you may
put in the front of the student.

Here are the steps.


1. Subtract the bottom number from the top number
in the ones column and write the answer under
the ones column.
2. Subtract the bottom number from the top number
in the tens column and write the number under
the tens column.
3. Bring the number in the hundreds column down
to the answer line.

Instructional 1. You will first demonstrate with the example


Strategies problems on the whiteboard, by reading a step,
then solving the step.

2. Have student write an example problem on their


whiteboard, then have them solve it. You will
read a step and the student will complete the
step.

3. Have them solve two problems independently on


the whiteboard. They can reference the list of
steps on the sheet of paper.
4. Go over steps, then give student the assessment
page to student.

Lesson Objective When students are given basic addition facts with sums
1-9, students will solve correctly 5 with 0 errors

Assessment: At the end of the lesson, please give the students a


page of five problems that they can solve. Please
instruct them to solve the page of problems
independently. When they are finished with the five
problems, they may go back to class.

Students will get points based on if the problem is correct. There will be the opportunity
