Lesson:
6.2 Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, Single
and social structures of the early civilizations of Mesopotamia,
Egypt, and Kush.

I. DESCRIPTION OF CONTENT AND CONTENT TYPE (Fact, Procedure, Concept, or


Principle):
Teacher will teach Social Studies, Egyptian Civilization through dance,
demonstration and lecture to 6th grade students.

II. LEARNING OUTCOME (Objective):


Students will successfully understand, identify, explain, and demonstrate early Ancient Egypt
Civilization as participation.

III. CURRICULUM CONNECTION (How this lesson fits into unit plan):
Introduction to 6th grade Social Studies in preparation for college advancement.

IV. INSTRUCTION

A) ENGAGEMENT (Motivational Activity):


Teacher will begin by playing the song,

B) INSTRUCTIONAL SEQUENCE (Teaching Methodology with Student Activities):


Conceptual Knowledge of Egypt:
Teachers will introduce the topic of Geography (longitude & latitude)
Teacher will explain the importance of the Nile River
Teacher will discuss Egypts agriculture
Teacher will then discuss Egypts weather conditions
Teacher will explain the significance and importance between the mummies and the
connection to Egyptians beliefs of the after life.
Teacher will work through a mathematical word problem that relates to the topic of
mummies.

Teaching Egypts Components Through Dance :


Teacher will instruct students to form a straight line
Teacher will then show students the dance movements that relate to the Egyptians
lifestyle
Teacher will portray the dance movements that will be utilized for the dance activity

Teacher will practice the dance movements with the students
Teacher will then practice the dance movements along with the students

APPLICATION ACTIVITY (Practice and/or Reflection):


Teacher reviews dance movements with students
Teacher assigns each student with a partner
Teacher will then explain what the following activity is
Teacher will pass out toilet paper to the partners
Students will help wrap one another using the toilet paper to provide a visual aid to
mummification
Students will then demonstrate their dance movements along with Egyptian music to the
teacher

I-pod for music

Toilet paper
Image/picture of maps, Nile River, mummies
Book on Egypt
Comfortable clothing
Body

V. ASSESSMENT STRATEGIES (Methods for obtaining evidence of learning):

While students are participating, the teacher will listen to the students and make mental notes
about the students understanding of the subject.

Teacher will listen to students identify and define the laws and provide help/feedback as needed.

Students work samples from class and group activity will be used to evaluate students ability to
understand, identify, explain and demonstrate the meaning of each law.

Immediate feedback will be provided immediately after students demonstrate their work.

VI. ACCOMODATIONS FOR INDIVIDUAL LEARNERS (Content, Instruction, Practice):


Attention will focused on struggling students and given immediate feedback.
ASL interpreter will be available
Hands on activities and visual demonstrations will be available for struggling students and ELL

Teachers will explain in Spanish as needed for ELL students.

HOMEWORK:
Students will create a historic Egyptian Timeline that includes 5 major events/ points
in the topic that we discussed in class.
