Hello, and welcome to Term 4, and what a busy term it looks to be!
For those of you who havent yet met me, my name is Nikki Harwood. I am currently in my last year of studying Bachelor of
Education Primary Teaching, at Charles Darwin University.
Over the last 6 weeks I have been welcomed into the classroom and have already learnt so much from your children. The following
4 weeks I will be taking over the teaching programof the class, with Mary there to support me through.
English: Students will be investigating and learning to write persuasive texts as well as incorporating narratives.
Maths: Understanding the money used in Australia and how to recognise the different coins and notes, as well as covering some
addition.
The Arts: Dance and Music. Students will be working as a class to learn and sing as part of the Count Us In program. They will
also be exploring different dance techniques and styles and creating music beat with musical instruments.
Design and Technology: Together with our buddies students will be working with Bee Bots to learn about programming, coding
and mapping.
Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS): Students will be looking at Dreamtime stories and the history of the Aboriginal people
as well as mapping of the world/Australia/continents. They will also learn about Cathy Freeman (Olympic runner),
MandawuyYunupingu (singer, helps people understand more about each other) and John Simon (footy player).
I love working with children, I find it a privilege to be able to do so. I hope to be able to make a positive impact and further build
upon individual skills which improve childrens learning and time in the classroom.
Congratulations toTyiron (Ty) and Mali who will be representing Room 3 at SRC this term. Deputy SRCs will be Robert and Mia.
I am sure I will see you in and out of the classroom throughout the following weeks. Please feel free to approach me and ask any
questions you may have.
Nikki Harwood
