I am delighted to write this letter of support for Kerri Lynn Haney-Vanderberg who I supervised during her Professional Semester II six week practicum in a grade 1 classroom at St. Josephs School in Coaldale. From the outset Kerri Lynn was very professional, dedicated and self-reflective. She easily established rapport with both students and colleagues. Kerri Lynn worked with her teacher associate to learn classroom routines and expectations and carried them out putting her own personality into the learning environment. Kerri Lynns ability to connect with children is probably her strongest asset. She quickly got to know her students and interacted with them easily and empathetically. She was very respectful of diversity in her classroom and strived to reach all students. Kerri Lynns understanding of her students personalities, strengths and needs allowed her to effectively translate the curriculum into engaging and purposeful lessons. Students were always actively engaged in their learning and enthusiastically anticipated Kerri Lynns next activity. Kerri Lynn had an excellent teacher presence. She was calm and positive with students, but very clear in her expectations. She was fair and consistent with follow through. This carried on to assessment of student learning, which was another area of strength for Kerri Lynn. She did an excellent job of monitoring student progress as well as giving timely feedback to students. Understanding the importance of being a part of a school community is something Kerri Lynn demonstrated throughout her practicum. She interacted with staff, students and parents outside of the classroom and got involved in school-wide activities. It was a pleasure to watch Kerri Lynns growth during her practicum and I know she will add much to any school she is in. I wish her much success in her teaching career.
