ESSAY: LANGUAGE TRANSLATION LEADS INTO
A WORLD OF OPPORTUNITIES AND EXPERIENCES.

Trying to put together all the skills a language is structured of, seems to be a difficult task
now that all the languages have their own origin and essence. Since I was a young man, I used to
be told that when things were done, they had to be done in a perfect way or it would be better not
even giving a try in them. These words made me feel engaged with every activity I was involved
in and learning a new language was not the exception.
I grew up in a family where quite a few of its members were teachers.-old school teachers!
Teaching is something that runs inside my veins and since a child I also wanted to become one:
especially an English teacher. I took my first steps on this field by studying on my own: an agenda,
a three-colored pen and an old English-Spanish dictionary. It was all I needed to start. I basically
used the method of text transcription and translation accompanied by memorizing sentences and
structures. It was very exciting for me to have the chance to do these tasks because it gave me
confidence to interact with me, myself and I! I was a little bit shy to take these things to external
people but I did it. I was recognized by my English teacher as one of the best. My performance in
her class was outstanding and I also was offered to be her support while class time.
After taking this experience ahead, it continued by feeling like I wanted to read it all in
English versions. It was the time I bought The Newsweek Magazine. I had to save money to buy
it but I used to do it. It was kind of difficult understanding the advanced and the technical language
written by the journalists in their reports and at the same time, I had to be aware of the styles applied
to these texts.- I felt miserable sometimes as I considered giving up. I thought it was impossible to
deal with that amount of information that nobody could understand. To get over it, I decided to
create a list of vocabulary and write sentences until the new meaning(s) of the words could be
stored in my mind.
The vocabulary acquisition is added up into our accounts by writing, practicing, reading
and speaking over and over again until it is automatically recognized and used as we practice
written and/or oral communication. Communication easily flows as you compact the right words,
in the right position but, it needs to be grammatically correct to avoid making mistakes in the
transmission of the message people intend to transmit. It is a process that demands time and lots of
practice. What practice is worthy to be done? One of them is by Translating. It has worked for me
because it has given me the ability to understand and realize about the connection of two languages
(English and Spanish) when interacting with native speakers. This connection has taken me into
the field of reading English stories that enrich ones vocabulary, I recommend you read these
adventure stories: Wheres Mauriac? and A trip to London by Lester Vaughan. These kinds of
stories will entertain you as you learn vocabulary and you live a close intercultural experience. I
definitely think these are living books you can start with.
As years passed by and I became an adult, half way of my life Ive dedicated my teaching
efforts to make my students understand about the importance of the exercise of translation
techniques to get close to the basics of English language that is so weak but so strong at the same
time but above all, the importance of having under control the skills of writing, speaking, listening
and reading to be successful in a second language acquisition, whichever it is.
Finally, I want to express that learning a foreign language gives you the opportunity to
succeed, to be someone, to become one with more people from different parts of the world
andyou can become a translator and/or an interpreter and it could take you anywhere you want
because translators and interpreters are needed wherever you go.
