RESISTIVITY

I. Objectives

To determine how fruits vary in their electrical properties.

To show how the characteristics of a certain object affects the flow of current as well as its
resistance.
To determine which fruit is most productive when it comes with electrical experiments.
To test the resistance your body can offer against other resistance from the fruit or object.
To identify which fruit can offer the most of resistance.

II. Material Needed

Fruits ( on different variety)

Zinc
Copper Wire
Tester

III. Procedure

1. Stick/Jab the zinc and copper wire on the fruit pointing towards each other.
2. Try to place the opposite poles on your tongue and observe or feel the reaction.
3. Measure the resistance of each fruit through the aid of the tester.

V. Observation

According to my observation that we did on the last experiment, potato, santol and avocado connected to a
piece of wire and a paper clip have a lower resistance because I felt just a little tickle on my tongue while the onion,
tomato, and apple have a higher resistance because they tingled my tongue.

VI. Conclusion
Based on the gathered data, my conclusions are: fruits have moisture have a lower resistance while the dry
fruits have higher resistance. We all know that resistance is inversely proportional to the current so if the resistance
of an object is high, the current is low, and vice versa.

V. Observation

Through the experiment conducted, I ended up with the following observations:

If ranked, fruits from higher tickling effect on my tongue, it will lead to this order: potato, onion,
avocado, santol, tomato and apple.
If ranked based on the result of resistance in the tester used, it will just follow the same order as how
my tongue felt the tickling effect with potato as the highest and apple as the lowest.
When using the tester, the results if the chords were connected to the wires stuck/ jabbed on the fruits
vary on the result if the chords were buried on the fruits surfaces.

VI. Conclusion

Based on the experiment, I therefore conclude that the resistance of an object was affected by the moisture
content of an object or the moisture on its surroundings. The drier the object is the higher resistance it can offer. Like
what was stated on our lessons, resistance was affected by several factors: the temperature, the area or the cross-
section, length and the resistivity of the material, this experiment lead me to a conclusion that water or any kind of
moisture really affects the whole electrical system, maybe one of the reason behind, is the fact that water is a natural
conductor. Also when it comes on using paths for current to flow, the longer the path used, the lower the result or
flow of current, while if the path is directed towards a source with shorter length, current rapidly flow and the result
of measurement was high.

V. Observation

Based on my observation, the apple, tomato and onion have greater resistance as compared to santol and
potato because my tongue tickled the moment I placed it in the copper wire and paper clip (in apple, tomato and
onion) near to it. While in the case of potato and santol, my tongue didnt felt anything.

VI. Conclusion

Based on the experiment, therefore it can be said that the greater the moisture content of the object, the
greater its resistance and vice versa.

VII. Generalization

To sum it up, by conducting the experiment, we determine how various fruits differ with the properties
related to electricity, the resistance each fruit can offer and how human body reacts with these resistances.
The moisture content of an object affects the system electrically, maybe because of the fact that water is a
natural conductor by nature. Since current is inversely proportional to resistance; the more moisture content an object
has, the more current can flow in the system and the less resistance that object can offer.
The path were current will flow also affects the system. On our discussion, resistance is affected by several
factors: the resistivity, the length, area or cross-section and temperature. In this experiment, we distinguish the
difference between if the path is longer and shorter because when we were using the tester, on first try, we measure
the resistance of each object through connecting the chords of the tester to the copper wire and zinc stuck in the
object. On the second try, we directly stuck the chords to the object, and the results on the first and second try have
difference, we got higher results on the second try thats why we proved that length really affects the resistance.
