INSTRUCTIONAL DECISION MAKING

MDD Standard 4 - 5
The teacher candidate makes adjustments to the lesson plans based on assessment
data and pupils engagement, communicating the analysis and conclusions regarding
the impact of instruction.

3.1 Student Response to Lesson 1: Did the student(s) respond in the ways you
had predicted? What do you think accounts for differences in student responses
and learning? Consider motivation, management, understanding of instructions,
complexity of task, and individualization to student ability.

During the first lesson, the response from the students was what I was expecting. In
the observation class, I could noticed that the students participated actively. For that reason,
we tried to plan an interactive lesson, especially focus on speaking. On the other hand, one
of the main issue with the students responses and learning was giving instructions, and that
we did not use CCQs. that could difficult the learning of the students.

3.2 Adjustments for Lesson 1: Describe how you will adjust your second lesson
in response to your analysis above. Consider instructional strategies, the
organization and content of the lesson, motivational strategies, preventative
management strategies, procedural changes, materials, activities and
assessment. Explain why you believe these adjustments will improve student
learning.

Taking into consideration the analysis above, I will follow the same strategy that this
first lesson, because I think that it worked. I think that in the first stage of the lesson is
necessary to incorporate a vocabulary review. Moreover, considering that students
participated actively in the previous lesson I will include a collaborative task, in order to
Develops social interaction skills. Otherwise in the second lesson, For a better
understanding of the instructions I would like to use different techniques to make it clear and
also I will include CCQs.

3.3 Analysis of Learning Results

3.3.2 Individuals: Select two students that represent different levels or kinds of
performance. Describe what these students learned in relation to two
significant learning goals, one of which must represent higher-level learning.
Use specific examples of the students' work including student writing, test
results, specific student comments, or your observations to draw conclusions
about the extent to which these students attained the learning goals.

3.3.2.1 Student 1

This first student is a 19 years old man. His performance was particularly good in the
lesson. From my perception, his english proficiency was according to his level. Moreover, he
was always participated and asked his doubts when necessary. He tried to help their
classmates while they were working on the tasks.

3.3.2.2 Student 2

This second student is a 19 years old man. In the observation class, I could noticed
that he participated and solved his doubts. Nonetheless, he is shy and had some problems
while speaking. additionally, when he worked in pairs or groups he seemed more confident.

3.4 Impact of your instruction on Student Learning

3.4.1 Identify what you believe to be the instructional strategies and activities
that contributed most to student learning.

The instructional strategies that contributes to students learning are the ones that
includes everything, such as audio, visual aids, collaborative working. These aspects
contributed to make a class more interesting and students do not get bored. Another
important point are the instructions, I consider that modeling is the most effective way at the
moment of giving instructions. Additionally, I believe that instructions should be giving in
written form and orally in order that students can understand better and use different senses.
Furthermore, something that had contributed to my students learning was the organization of
activities. This should be in a way that the level of difficulty of the tasks was increasing, this
organization had the objective of made the class challenging for they.
3.4.2 Explain how your teaching behaviors affected student learning. Consider
student response to explaining, giving directions, modeling, organizing
activities, leading discussions, the pacing of the lesson, and the overall
organization of the lesson.

My teaching behaviors can affect directly the students learning. Regarding the overall
organization of the class following the PPP lesson plan format turned out to be successful
and engaging for the students. However, there are some issues that may affect the
understanding of my student, I must improve my voice volume. Moreover, I tend to
monitored and model every activity to make sure that everybody could understand what to
do. Considering the students response, the most of the activities were in pairs and groups,
also students benefited with the organization of the class and activities due to that activities
were planned in order to challenge students to talk.

Repeat same sequence of prompts for Lesson 2

3.1 Student Response to Lesson 2: Did the student(s) respond in the ways you
had predicted? What do you think accounts for differences in student responses
and learning? Consider motivation, management, understanding of instructions,
complexity of task, and individualization to student ability.

The response from the students in the second lesson was what I was expecting. The
topic was the same, so the students had previous knowledge about it. Students were
motivated, specially with the final task that was create a poster. As I said before in the
analysis of the first lesson, the students participated actively; thus, that was not a problem.
Taking the feedback from the lesson one, I included CCQs.

3.2 Adjustments for Lesson 2: Describe how you will adjust your second lesson
in response to your analysis above. Consider instructional strategies, the
organization and content of the lesson, motivational strategies, preventative
management strategies, procedural changes, materials, activities and
assessment. Explain why you believe these adjustments will improve student
learning.
From my point of view, I think that the class fit with the aim of the lesson plan, and
the students were motivated in every task. For that reason I will follow the same strategy.
Nevertheless, I think that my performance needs to improve especially my voice volume.

The first students is a 20 years old man. He is always willing to participate, being volunteer
to almost most of the activities. Furthermore, in the collaborative task I could noticed his
leadership skill.

3.3.2.2 Student 2

This second students is a 18 years old woman. She struggled with her English and
shyness in the classroom; thus, she did not participated as much as other students. I could
noticed that she had difficulties to completed one task. furthermore, this student tend to use
her L1 when she did not know how to say or how to pronounce something.

3.4 Impact of your instruction on Student Learning

3.4.1 Identify what you believe to be the instructional strategies and activities
that contributed most to student learning.

From this lesson the instructional strategies that contributes to students learning was
modeling, because, when the teacher models the activities, students understand better.
Additionally, an activity that I think is a contribution in students learning, are those which are
more creative and dynamic, Thank to this students can be more motivated to complete the
activity.
3.4.2 Explain how your teaching behaviors affected student learning. Consider
student response to explaining, giving directions, modeling, organizing
activities, leading discussions, the pacing of the lesson, and the overall
organization of the lesson.

I think the most important behavior that affected my students learning was that I
showed interest and I put attention while they were presenting. This can be a positive and
negative aspect. Because, some students could feel more confident with an audience. in the
other case, they could feel nervous when the teacher is taking notes. Another important
factors that affected the student learning were the timing and the organization of the class.

4.1 Identify two concrete aspects of your lesson planning, assessments or

implementation of the lessons that you will do differently the next time you are
asked to plan and deliver instruction to a group of students.

The first aspect that I would like to include in my future classes it would be the use of
CCQs. I believe that are one of the most important strategies in terms of checking
understanding. Moreover, the second aspect is how to give them feedback on their
performance. I consider that feedback is one of the most important steps during the learning
process.
