Grade and Topic: 3rd Grade Science Length of Lesson: 60 minutes for 4 days
Mentor Teacher: Peggy Murdock and Marla Phillips School: University of Memphis IDT 3600
LESSON OBJECTIVE:
Given required materials, students will create a graphic organizer demonstrating their research on the
life cycle of a flowering plant with a score of 5 out of 5 on the rubric. (Blooms Taxonomy: Synthesis,
application, analysis)
Given required materials, students will complete a fill in the blank quiz on the life cycle of flowering
plants with a score of 25 out of 25 on the rubric. (Blooms Taxonomy: Knowledge, comprehension,
application)
The goal of this lesson is for students to explain the life cycle of flowering plants by applying what they
have researched. The student will be creating a graphic organizer by using a computer to access websites
needed for research, imagery, and the Web 2.0 tool, Creately, to complete the activity. Also, the student
will recall information during this lesson by completing a fill in the blank quiz.
STANDARDS ADDRESSED:
State/District, Common Core Standards
TN Science Standard 4 Heredity
GLE 0307.4.1 Identify the different life stages through which plants and animals pass.
ISTE Standard(s)
3. Research and Information fluency: Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use
information.
b. Locate, organize, analyze. Evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of
sources and media.
MATERIALS:
Students will use the websites stated above for research, imagery, and creation required for the Life Cycle of
Flowering Plants Graphic Organizer lesson, and to complete the Life Cycle of Flowering Plants Fill in the
Blank Quiz. The Web 2.0 tool, Creately, will be used to type, format, and add an image to the Life Cycle of
Flowering Plant Graphic Organizer activity. Upon completing the activity, students will save and print their
work before turning in the activity.
