1.0 OBJECTIVE

This section is intended to illustrate the information that is shown

on an aboveground piping plan. Additional information, notes,
data, details, etc., may be required per contract criteria. The
aboveground piping plan together with the model shall be
complete with all information required for preparing piping
isometries. This section shall also be used in conjunction with
aboveground piping drawings, i.e., Full Detail Method (ST-R-5001)
or minimum Detail Method (P.D.G.8.7.)

2.1 None Modeled Areas

2.1.1 Full piping plans, elevations, sections and details are
provided.
2.2 Modeled Areas
2.2.1 Full piping plans with equipment nozzle charts
and necessary details or section for clarity. Areas
that may require sections and details include, but
and not limited to, the following.

2.2.2 The drawings of sections and details will require

the approval of the unit piping supervisor.
2.2.3 Detached or upper piping plans shall be used as
required to avoid congestion.

3.0 DRAWING SIZE

3.1 Size

All contracts shall use R size, approximately 4 to 6 Feet

long, unless Fluor 4-Size (AI) or client size paper has been

specified as contract requirement. For drawing sizes see PDG

8.1

4.0 DRAWING SCALE

4.1 Scale

The piping plan shall be drawn at 3/8-inch =1-0 scale.

Smaller scales may be used for uncomplicated areas, e.g.,

offsites, tankage etc., as designated by the supervisor.

5.0 MATCH LINES

Shown intermittently for drawing continuation, indicate
drawing numbers and coordinates. Do not enclose drawing
with match lines.

6.0 NORTH ARROW

Place north arrow at top of drawing in the right hand

corner and pointing toward top or right hand side of

drawing.
7.0 LETTERING

PURPOSE: this guide establishes lettering practices for use in

preparing engineering drawing.

7.1 All letters and numbers should be distinch, opaque,

uniform and properly spaced for legible reproduction by all

commonly used methods.

7.1.1 Upper case letters shall be used for all

lettering on drawings.
7.1.2 All letters and numbers shall have a natural slant to
the right.

7.1.3 The minimum height for lettering shall be1/8.

7.1.4 Words are to be clearly separated by a space equal
to the height of the lettering.

7.1.5 The minimum vertical spacing between lines shall

normally be 1/8.

7.1.6 Numerals shall conform to the same height, slant

and spacing requirements as lettering.

7.1.7 Lettering should not be underlined, except when

special emphasis is required.

7.2 Practice in lettering develops uniformity as well as speed,

being able to letter fast is a goal for developing a style, acquire

a style, but do not get exotic.

7.3 Exception: when revisions are made, the original style of

lettering should be maintained.

8.0 LINE WORK

8.1 All drafting requires clear, sharp line work for proper re-
duction and reproduction. line weigh

is varied for pipe, valves, equipment (background),

dimension line, centerlines,etc.
8.2 H , 2H , and 3H are normal lead weights for all line

work and lettering on vellum. Filmograph

and lettering on mylar type drawings. Humidity and

9.0 PIPING SYMBLS

For fluor standard piping symbols see P.D.G. 5.0

9.1 Basically the symbols are the standard used throughout the

industry. The newly hired designer is cautioned to review the

standard closely and make special note of how fluor depicts

the following:

9.1.1 Single line treatment of flanges and flanged valves.

9.1.2 Plug and globe valve symbols.

9.1.3 Handwheel presentation for gate and globe valves.

9.2 Single line piping will be used throughout except in the

following cases:
9.2.1 On 3/8 and 1/4 scale drawings double line

treatment may be given to piping 24 in diameter and

larger for drawing clarity.
9.2.2 Where the piping arrangement is too complex,

double line piping drafting may be used to clarify.

9.2.3 On drawings of a smaller scale than 1/4" , no double

line piping will used.

9.2.4 Double line drafting will be used on all compressor

bottles, fuel gas bottles, flash pots, etc.

9.2.5 Double line drafting will not normally be used on

any studies or layouts.

9.3 Fittings

9.3.1 Weld symbols shall be shown.

9.3.2 Screwed and socket weld fitting symbol will shown.

9.3.3 Swages and reducers shall be shown but not called

out unless they are eccentric type, e.g., TF, BF.

9.4 Valves Handwheels

Modeled area; do not show handwheel orientation except

where chain operator is required or space limitations are

such that it must shown to verify clearances. do not show
orientation of screwed or socketweld valve handwheels. for

non-modeled areas, handwheels must be shown to guide

the spooling effort.
10.0 PIPING

(i.e. full detail method or minimum detail method). All piping

shall be drawn single line,

use double line only where it is necessary to show clearances.

10.1 Full detail method (ST-R-5001)

10.1.1 All piping regardless of size will be shown on the

drawing.
10.2 Minimum detail method (P.D.G.8.7)

10.2.1 All 3 inch and larger carbon steel butt welded piping

shall be shown on the drawing.

10.2.2 All sizes of the following piping will be shown on the

drawing.

ASME code piping.

Category X piping (Ref. category M, ANST B31.3).
Alloy and special materials.

900# and greater line classes.

Piping requiring hold downs.
10.2.3 Carbon steel screwed or socketweld 2 and

smaller, and 1-1/2 inch or smaller butt welded

piping shall not be shown on the piping plan except

when using the Field Route symbol

( Ref. 10.2.8).

10.2.4 All lines regardless of size will be shown running

through pipeways, sub sup pipeways and common or

special structural supports in combination with other

lines.

10.2.5 Piping connections to equipment shall have a small

portion shown minimum detail. At vertical vessels show

line to point where it makes turn away from vessel.

These lines shall be continued by use of the field route

symbol (Ref. 10.2.8). utility station piping shall not be

indicated.

10.2.6 Piping shall be shown but not located at controls or

critical points, e.g., control valves, meter runs, mixing
tees, etc., and shall be continued beyond these points

by using the field route symbol (Ref. 10.2.8) .

10.2.7 Fabrication and installation packages method
Denotes package detail, e.g., level instruments, utility

stations, steam traps, sample coolers etc. Package detail

symbols be shown on plan drawing as required per

these instructions.

10.2.8 Field roust method

Denotes field routed lines. Field construction will route

F
and support these lines as required. In

Line items as valves, instruments etc., will be located by

construction per the flow diagrams

Piping specifications, and fabrication ant installation

packages.it shall be necessary to indicate and/or locate

lines or portions thereof on piping plans. These portions

shall be

Indicated with minimum detail and terminated either at

equipment or with the field route

Symbol on each end.

11.0 LINE IDNETIFICATION
11.1 Line numbers and flow arrows shall be shown throughout

the drawing to adequately identify all lines.

11.2 Vessel trim numbers shall be shown on drawing.
12.0 COORDINATES AND DIMENSIONS

Follow the practice of coordination and dimensioning as

indicated on the graphic section of drawing ST-R-5001 For full

detail method and P.D.G.8.7. for minimum detail method.
