Installation

Take the balance carefully out of its packing.

Remove plastic cover and take adhesive tapes off.
Place balance on a sturdy table.

Take off tape and remove front panel.

To loosen transport arrestment:

Remove plastic stopper from base plate.
Remove knob from axle of weight application (a) and
attach to arrestment axle (b)
Turn knob anti-clockwise until stop.
Remove knob from arrestment axle (b) and attach to axle
of weight application (a)
Close opening in base plate with stopper.

3
Make Sure that balance is set for correct operating
voltage. lf necessary, change setting before connecting
balance to line.

Set weight knob to "0".

Automatic zero compensation

Remove stopper.

4
Loosen screw of transport arrestment
with attached screw-driver .

For transport, please fix screw again .

For illumination of the read-out of the optical scale use switch

(c).

Level balance by means of foot screws and spirit level.

5
Focus scale image on screen.

Adjust light intensity: Loosen knurled nut (a) re-position

lamp bracket (b), re-tighten nut and re-insert front panel.

Turn tare knob to stop, then go back approx. 1/2 scale division.

6
Adjust zero point.

Zero point adjustment:

Weight knob, micrometer and tare indicator must be at
"0".

Pull off all operating knobs and levers, slip protective

cover over housing and put knobs and levers back in
place.

7
Model 2255: Put down draft shield.

Model 2255: draft shield is turned around for small

beakers or samples.

8
Checking

Even though every balance leaves the factory in perfectly

adjusted condition, slight changes may occur in transit.

Place an object of greater weight than the optical scale

range on the balance. Set weight and tare knobs to "0".

Return weight knob by 1 digit, scale must "swing in" on

correct value.

9
Model 2256 can be checked with 1 kg weight only
(available on request).

Remove pan and pan support if indication is incorrect.

Models 2254/55: Remove stopper from balance housing.

Push plate down.
Direction of rotation of the correcting weight :
indication below maximum scale deflection
indication above maximum scale deflection.

10
Models 2251/53/56: Loosen screws (fig. a) and clamps on
the rear panel. Pull off knobs and take off the casing.

Direction of rotation of the correcting weight:

indication below maximum scale deflection
indication above maximum scale deflection.

11
Taring

For taring, any value within the scale range can be tared to
zero.

Use weight knob to apply proper weight if the tare

exceeds the scale range.

The tare range can be further extended if necessary by

taking off the pan.

12
Model 2256: An additional approx.2 kg tare weight can be
removed from below the pan.

Pointer indicates taring position.

Various size bowls (as special accessory) of matched

weight are available (except for Model 2251).

13
Weighing to pre-set value

Example: Sample weight 60 g.

After applymg tare to compensate for weight of container, allow
scale to swing to "60 g".

Example: Sample weight 6.85 g (2254).

Apply tare to compensate for Container weight.
Set micrometer to "85", allow scale to swing to "06".

14
Weighing, regular

Check zero adjustment. Place a load on the pan.

Set micrometer after scale stops oscillating and read result.

lf the weight of the sample is in excess of the optical scale

range, turn weight knob until the scale "swings in", adjust
micrometer and read result after scale stops oscillating.

Model 2251: After removing the 2 kg-weight below the

weighing pan, 2 kg are to be added to the weight-
indication.

15
Weighing below the balance

All models are equipped with a hook for weighing below

the balance. lf necessary dial mechanical weights to
maximum. Arrest balance. Place balance on one side and
open cover sidewise.

Replacing the scale illuminator

Detach defective bulb and adjust light

intensity according to side 6.
